Attack of the Sniffles

Here goes the SMS conversation I had with my coach this morning:

Me: Hi Coach, do you think I can run today if I have cough and colds?

Coach: Mam, no. Take lots of liquid, medicine, and rest. Pls advise when we can continue our run. Tnx and get well.

Me: Oh, I was hoping ud say otherwise cos I wanted to run alone later. Okay I’ll take your advise. I hope am better by tomorrow so we can run in Alabang.

My thoughts: Grrr…I shouldn’t have asked! I should’ve just run!

Sniff Sniff

Five minutes later…

Coach: Mam, sorry I mistook you for another mom who does recreational running. Anyway, if the cold and cough are bad, no running. If mild, just run for maintenance of fitness, light session will do.

Me: Yey! Okay! I’ll do an easy run on the treadmill later. I hope I’m feeling better tomorrow.

My thoughts: Maybe I should speed it up later and drain the virus out of my system through sweat? Would that work? I hate being sick. Sniff sniff.

  1. i say run.

run till the sweat bathes you all over.

nothing to banish that virus off the system than a good, thorough flush of sweat.

been sick since yesterday. slight fever last night. run this morning, and got spooked. showered, ate, ran to school.

i feel as rosy as a newborn baby. no, forget the baby…i feel good!

you should be after a good run. or is the bed a better choice?

  3. if it’s only some coughing and sniffles, i’d go out for a light run, and like hitme said, i’d sweat it off. i’ve found out it helps me. but if i had body aches, i’ll be like a baby and curl up on the couch and just rest. :)

so was coach b’s advice to you different than what he would’ve given the other runner mom?

  4. Hey hitme and e-rod, it worked! Ran for 45 mins on the treadmill yesterday and by last night the cough and colds were gone! Well it came back early this morning but i’m feeling much better now. Yey, i’m running on the road tonight.

Yup, coach b’s advice was different. the other mom is in his recreational running program—and they’re still trying to go from walking to running.

Runwitme, thanks for dropping by again too :)

  5. from the looks of it, jaymie must’ve taken a really good bed rest…she usually would’ve answered us all here by this time…

okay take a good, thorough rest…better to pamper the body for now…

  6. No bedrest for me! After taking the kids to school, I decided to finally take mrspartygirl’s advice and I went for another kind of marathon—grey’s anatomy marathon :) I’ve had the last 3 episodes on my laptop for the longest time and only got the chance to watch it now. Aaaah, dr mcdreamy!
