2008 Resolutions

THIS YEAR, I resolve to:

… run easy when it is an “easy run.”

… incorporate more hill runs into my training.

… find a “softer” running route away from the concrete roads of Alabang. (Aaaw, I’ll miss my playground terribly.)

… listen to the beeping of my HRM—like when I breach Zone 4 on a long, slow run. I’m bad.

… master laughing and running simultaneously. Many a times I’ve had to pause in the middle of a run when Annie and I share a good chuckle. Such a waste of precious time! There must be a technique for one to enjoy both.

… rest when I feel pain or soreness. Denial didn’t seem to help last year.

… sacrifice a race for a long run. I can’t have my banana and eat it too.

… practice proper warm up before a race. (Thanks Ben for always reminding me about this.)

… go to the gym 2x a week for cross training and weights. Disclaimer: this resolution is effective only upon enrollment in a gym.

… cut back on mentos and choc-nut

… eat more veggies. I’m a good girl already when it comes to my fruits quota.

2008 GOALS:

1) Run a marathon

2) Learn more about swimming and cycling (need I tell you where I am headed with this?)

3) Subtly try to convince hubby to run with me

  2. happy new nyir miss jaymie!!!!! get some elastic bands nalang for your resistance training. Then you don’t need to enroll in the gym. You can easily incorporate it to your already great training plan. :) Good luck with the goals!

  3. Armand, thanks! happy new year to you.

Ben, thanks for the advice! Anti-gym ka talaga ha? I was thinking I could take advantage of their elliptical and stationary bikes too. Maybe take up some pilates/yoga classes there. Your elastic bands suggestion sounds cheaper though so i’ll think about it :)

  4. Great goals and achievable for you–I don’t doubt this at all. Good luck this year and I hope your knee gets the treatment it needs to help you reach your goals.

  5. happy new year jaymie! tama si ben, wag ka na mag-gym! go swim, bike, and climb na lang! bili ka na lang ng crates para sa weights for strength training. sinuwerte lang siguro ako na libre ang gym dito sa amin hehe.

  7. Hi Jaymie,

    Im chris. happy new year.

just been re-reading your fab blog (since im a novice runner)… just wanted to share you how your journey has been a big help for me..

perhaps wanted to share what ive been trying as well…my dilemma had always been what to do after thos long runs (yup, even when malakas pa… pinipilit pa…OA talaga ako) anyway, what i wanted to share was that yoga was helpful as a cross training activity to those long runs. If im in alabang, i try to attend a flow yoga class in FF which is mostly upper body (not so much on legs… hehe)

    thats all. peace.

  8. I was at Alabang two days before I left for a dinner, a cousin drove us around and I saw cyclists, runners and walkers but the first thing I noticed was the concrete, nothing but right. I hope you find a softer surface.

I hear you about the weight training. After not doing any weight training for two years (not enough time), I’ve rejoined a gym and committed to do the same. I need it.

Good luck with your goals, especially goal #3.
