Li’l TBR Turns 7!

Today is a special day. It is the Little Bull Runner’s 7th Birthday today.

Like any mother bull, I am quite amazed at how fast my little baby has grown. Once upon a time, he needed me by his side every waking minute. Now, he is an independent little boy. A little bit on the shy and quiet side just like me when I was young. But, he is smart (ranked 1st in his class for last quarter), creative (loves drawing and art), confident (When I told him his class won in a sports event while he was absent, he innocently replied “How did they win if I wasn’t there?”) and, last but not the least, happy.

Little TBR says that football is the sport for him and we respect that. Lucky for me, he enjoys running too. When I asked him if he wanted to join the Condura Run with me this coming Sunday, he confidently replied “Okay. I’m going to be the fastest kid there.”

The Condura Run would’ve been his 4th race, but the first time that I would be his guardian. During past races, I would run 10k while my hubby would accompany my son at 3k. Due to my injury, I was looking forward to running along with him and enjoying the bonding experience. Secretly, I also planned on subtly training him for future races, to teach him how to warm up properly, to learn to find his pace, and most of all, to enjoy racing as I do. Unfortunately, my little boy had fever all throughout the week and only recovered today. My plan has been shelved—at least temporarily until he fully recovers.

Before I go, you may have noticed that I revised the header that many of you said were too “macho” for prim and proper me (okay, I just added in the last portion of that sentence.) I finally got the go-signal from my creative director, little TBR aka Birthday Boy, who as I’ve mentioned was the one who chose the “mean-looking” bull over the pink one which wore rubber shoes. When I told him that several readers commented that the bull was not “me,” he replied like an artist who must comply with his client’s request, “Fine. Change the bull. Just make sure you don’t use that background with flowers and shoes again.” Then he adds, “Maybe you want to change the color of the rubber shoes or remove it.” I reply with a nod, “Yes, Sir.” Anything Little TBR asks for, he gets—at least on his birthday.

  2. Happy Birthday to your son. Ill probably see you at the Condura run. But I won’t be running any races there. Like you, I need lots of recovery. Ill just be doing some easy runs along the fort area.

    see you.

  3. Happy Birthday! My little one is also down with fever… I was planning to run with her at the Pinay in Action 1.6K. I hope she recovers in time.

Running parents are all the same. I guess we enjoy running so much that we want our kids to experience the same. Except the injuries!

  4. I like this bull better, don’t change it. It’s kinda quirky, the way it seems to stop and look out to something that called its attention. I also saw the macho bull yesterday. I thought it was just one of your moods as the bull was starting seeing red after not being able to run. Happy birthday Anton! I agree about the flowers and the shoes that looked a bit tired. I definitely like this new banner.

  5. I showed Anton the greetings from you all and asked him what he wanted to say to you. He said “Hello!” hahaha :)

Baldrunner, if that sports drink sponsored me then I’d be willing to put that mean looking bull back on! haha

Taki, I won’t be going to Condura at all. I don’t want to run alone since I know I’m going to be competitive and I won’t be able to control my speed! haha. Feel awful about missing it.

Mark, I hope your daughter is well by PIA! I look forward to meeting her…if we can make it too.

Tina, thanks! Glad you like it. :)

  6. Happy Birthday BFF of Diego! Haha. I heard he has been absent and that quite a number of them caught a virus of some sort. Diego had fever Tues but went back today. Anyway, he is making me kulit about buying Anton a birthday present. Any suggestions?

  8. I am sure that Anton will be a runner/football athlete. The urge to play a sport if he would have not found any body to play soccer with him when he gets older might take him to running :) .
just like our h@ppy feet colleague, Jan and I were soccer players :) !
well wishes for the little Bull runner :) !

  9. Happy birthday to your son. My son will also be turning 6 next week and already did couple of races including a 5k during the PMPR while I did the 42K. I’m planning to join him in 10k runs next year and maybe a half marathon before reaching the age of 10. He’s hyperactive and our sports really fit in his system. Though he only runs during Saturdays and Sundays, he seems to have a very strong cardio. BTW, i saw Annie, your training partner during the race. She’s really strong. I crossed the finish line about 2 minutes ahead of her, and this I think this is my worst run in my 9 full marathons. Vengeance come August 3.

  10. Mayi, thanks! What else—anything Pokemon! :)

Marga, baka type mo lang macho. haha.

WItchkitty, any sport will be fine really as long as he’s healthy and happy. I’ll still pray though it’ll be running :)

Georgieboy, wow your son is strong! My boy just joins 3ks for fun and I want to keep it like that until he says he wants to seriously train for a race. So you’re the “George” annie told me about! Yes, she’s strong alright. The day after the marathon she still ran! haha. Congrats on your 9th marathon! May you have many more to run :)
