I was never interested in trail running. I disliked my first and perhaps last experience with mountain climbing a decade ago (my, am I that old?)—the mud, rocks, and bugs just didn’t catch my fancy. And, I don’t like getting my running shoes dirty. But, for some reason, I’m actually open to giving Trail Running a shot (my guess is it has something to do with my running on the field more often than the road nowadays). I may not join during this coming R.O.X. clinic but some time in the future. Maybe when hubby is willing to accompany me…and when the sun isn’t this intense.

Maybe you would like to try this out. The lady at the counter said 7 runners have registered so far. They are only accepting a maximum of 40. Go for it why don’t you? It sounds like a lot of fun!

E-rod, in this heat, it’ll be quite different from your trail running experience over there :)

  5. Has Ige ever joined any trail races? Aside from the terrain, how different is it?

  6. Ige races the multi-discipline Carera Habagat and races up mountains when not coaching the stars — Fernando Zobel, Nina Huang, et al :)

  7. Well as you already know, I freakin love it. I was a marathon runner before I converted to trail running because of constant injuries from pounding the asphalt. It’s a different kind of rhythm and requires more attention at all times. I love the hills, the scenery, picking my way through a trail especially if it’s technical, I like that more of my body is involved, body position changes often, I love the the first step is different from the last, it’s constantly changing because the terrain is always changing, up, down, rocks, roots, mud, dirt, sand. I like that the dirt is softer than asphalt. Trail shoes are also a lot more fun. Laugh as you hold your line down a hill through a turn tossing gravel all over the place.

When you start you’ll feel a bit more sore because more of your body is involved. Check this vid out, it’s only two minutes.

  8. Mark, I do know Ige joined the Mt kinabalu climbathon last year and yes he joined the carera habagat as miraclecello mentioned.

Miraclecello, thanks for sharing info. :)

Rick, great video! Thanks for sharing. Aaaw, it looks like so much fun…especially where you are! It’s just a lot more difficult to find trails to run here in the philippines and get a group together to run them. Hopefully, with this ROX thing, more people will start getting into it.
