The Need for Shades

Running is one of the most affordable sports there is.  No need for special gear or equipment such as a swimsuit and goggles, bike and helmet, skis, ball, racket, etc.  One can indulge in the sport with the clothes on his back and the shoes on his feet—or, in rare cases, no shoes at all.

Conversely, running can be an expensive sport, especially for insane people who obsess over the latest gear.  I am living proof of that statement.

Since I started running, I have “invested” (the aforementioned word works wonders for the shopping conscience) in a watch, running shoes, singlets and shorts, ipod, caps, running socks, water bottle carrier, coaching and therapy fees, and more.  I thought I needed nothing more…until a couple of days ago.

I met affable and down-to-earth Titus Cruz, distributor of Optic Nerve shades in the country, who basically reminded me through his presence that I could use a pair of shades to keep my already singkit eyes from shrinking even more when the sun hits me.

Titus came into our meeting carrying bags of sunglasses in various shapes, colors, and sizes.  Optic Nerve shades, he explained, are sports shades that won’t cost you an arm and a leg. (Perfect for me because, at my injured state, I really can’t afford to lose another leg!)  And, based on what I saw, the shades have attractive designs and are high-quality products.

I sifted through dozens of models and declared, after a long 30 minutes, that it was a toss up between “Threat” and “Revolt.”  I ended up choosing both.

Driving home from The Fort, I wore “Threat” in the car—complete with stickers and tags on—and declared that I liked it.  Mind you, my two kids agreed that I looked like a cool mama too.  I have yet to test them training outdoors but you can expect to read TBR’s Optic Nerve review pretty soon.

For more information, you may contact Titus Cruz at 0917.812.0308 or email tyts77@yahoo.com.  Check out Optic Nerve sports shades at their site.

  1. I know what you mean Jaymie. I just started running regularly this January and I already bought 2 watches, running apparel, a pair of shoes, shades, 2 mp3 players, and hydration belt. Running is not only a healthy vice but an expensive one too!

  3. How important are shades, really? I’ve been into outdoor sports (soccer, T&F, tennis) since primary school, now I’m in my 40s, my ophthalmologist was surprised to know that I just recently “needed” glasses and only the lowest grade at that.

Now, is it really a need?

    I WANT A BOLLE!!! – ha ha ha :D

  4. Shopping is a good motivator when you are injured. I bought the Wave Rider 10 to keep me focus on the bigger prize. Running healthy again!!! Be patient and stick to your therapy and strengthening exercises. See you at the starting line in 6 weeks.

  5. ok pa running…kung gastos ang paguusapan, ibang usapan ang cycling (as i’m sure you’ll find out eventually, hehehe) ang dahilan ko na lang kay mrs eh, buti sa sports ko na lang binubuhos ang gastos kaysa bisyo :) in the long run, assuming kaya natin ginagawa ito para healthy tayo, makakatipid din sa pagtanda natin ang pagtakbo dahil hindi tayo basta basta maoospital nang dahil sa sakit, o di ba? kaya hala sige, tuloy lang sa pagbili ng gadgets :)

  6. running is really one of the cheapest sports, maybe next cheapest to street basketball where you play in the nearest brgy. court wearing “tsinelas and pangbahay”

  7. haha we thought running was the cheapest sports huh?!?
add to that the supplies of sunblock and vaseline etc!

joking aside, shades has been useful for me lately specially when you run near bodies of water early in the morning, the reflection of the sun is too much.. nakakasilaw.

i am h@ppy too with my mosman :D nde nalalaglag!

  9. Running is the least expensive exercise for fitness. You just need a good pair of shoes, shorts, a shirt, and a place to run on. But, once it becomes your sport, once your train for it, once you become competitive (against yourself or others), that’s when it becomes expensive. Now, any shoes won’t do, you’ll need shoes that provide you the best comfort while helping improve your speed. You’ll look for running attire that wicks your sweat away… running from one street corner to the next will no longer suffice, you’d want to know how far exactly was that stretch you’ve just ran, and at what pace you did it! Running could indeed be an expensive sport, but the health and psychological benefits far outweigh the costs :D

  10. Oh, what adds up to the expense of running also is that after running for sometime, you end up shopping for new clothes! Because once you’ve been running long enough, you begin to get thinner and leaner… your old clothes will no longer fit you, so you end up shopping! hehehe :D

  12. Hi! I’ve been looking for running shades for a while. Most of them have bad fit or fog up. How is your experience with Optic nerve so far?

  13. I just bought an Optic Nerve White Ranch last week and I’ve been using them since. It perfectly fits my face and most of the time I forgot that I have shades on. It’s very light as if you’re wearing nothing at all. And the price is just right compare with other popular shades out there with same quality. I’ve been flossin my Optic Nerve and most of my friends are interested buying one soon. Hope this will help.
