I’ll TRI!

AnimoReceipt

I just registered for the Animo Triathlon mini-sprint distance on September 14! I know, it’s next week already.  Don’t remind me. I’m in denial.

82% of me is excited.

10% is nervous about the 350m swim.

5% is wondering how to prepare for transitions.

3% is trying to figure out what to wear.

Boy oh boy oh boy, what have I gotten myself into?  Good thing I managed to drag, I mean, invite my 17-year-old nephew to do the mini-sprint with me.  Wish us luck!

  1. good luck! i tried swimming… and it’s too tiring! can’t even do 1 lap of a 20 meter pool! :D good luck on your 1st tri!

Thanks loony. Yes, swimming is so tiring! One lap and I feel my heart thumping already. I still have to work on that portion. Exactly 9 days to go. Shucks.

  6. good luck ha! tip ko sa transition: practice at home! tip ko on what to wear: wear your flashiest clothes to pump you up :D

Hector, I don’t know about flashy clothes. Won’t it call more attention especially when I’m hanging on to the lane lines for dear life?!

  8. I still need to register but also decided to TRI… The swim is also my area of worry seeing that all my swimming before was leisure only. I tried in our swimming pool at home but it is not even close to 50m. Went to ULTRA and is even more scared now. Ahh we’ll see, have to start somewhere. I bought the suit for tri and I feel stupid in it, it is a one piece but not use to wqearing things like that. Are you going to the run clinic at ROX next week, if you go we can have a good laugh on the different gear needed.

Foreignrunner, I think this is the perfect tri for beginners. I think it’s great that there are a lot of us newbies joining. We can all kinda laugh at ourselves and each other! Bawal pikon :)

  13. yeah go jaymie! if you turn triathlete form hereon will you have another blog? thebulltriathloner? hmmm…not as catchy. btw will you be swimming using total immersion?

If I have another blog, I won’t have time to actually train anymore :)

I TRY to use the TI technique when I train but, in the race, I don’t really know how it’ll go. Let’s see. Whatever works to keep me afloat haha.

  16. TBR / Foreign runner – If you are competing with a Tri suit or a bathing suit you will need racebelts to pin your numbers. I don’t recommend pinning numbers on you the tri suit or bathing suit.

    Good luck.

Mark, where do you buy one? Panibagong gastos nanaman! haaaay.

  18. yey!!!! kayang kaya mo yan…I’ll see you there…i know it’s one week to go but try to squeeze in swim workouts pa din it will help…it was just last week when we bumped into each other at bhs and i told you my worries about doing freestyle for the 350 swim but by some miracle after three consecutive days of swim workouts i’ve finally managed to get my rhythm right or my lungs adjusted or i’ve grown scales na whatever basta bigla na lang so what a relief i wouldn’t have to breastroke my way there…did you buy a tri-suit?…i saw one at rox but didn’t have to guts to even try it on :-) …good luck to us…one week left to go…bring your cheering squad ha…my girls and hubby will be there too…TRAIN SAFE!!!

Mary Anne! Yey for your swimming! I’ll be working on my swimming this week too. Haven’t bought a tri suit. Some say I should, others say no need. I’ll decide in a few days. I have a feeling no one will look at what we’re wearing anyway. See you there!

  22. Woohoo, I’m curious to see how you like it. Time to look up some transition clinics on YouTube! If you end up like it let me know. I got extra race belts, velcro enclosures for race chips, etc, etc, etc. Swim caps…I’ve amassed a little pile of misc. tri gear.

Rick, you better start filling up a balikbayan box for me! Kidding :)

  25. After reading your blog a quick though bump at the back of my head and it goes. “People who got the most out of life are those who prepared to roll with the punches, those who recognize the fact that they can’t afford to become static or stagnant”

Nothing much I could say but the best of luck :) and by the I agree with Loonyrunner. I suggest you have to train more in swimming I tell you its a very demanding one. well Good luck and God bless.

Thanks. Yup, I’ll try to swim as much as I can this week.

  26. Do you have to swim straight in a triathlon? Do you get disqualified when you stop halfway then just continue?

For this one, since most are newbies, my friend Mary Anne said we’re allowed to pause in the middle and take our time. I don’t know about other triathlons. Definitely you can’t stop in open water :)

  27. goodluck jaymie on your first tri!…just remember what T.I. had taught you.swim tall.

Norma, yup it’s pretty short. Shucks, more embarrassing if one doesn’t finish :)

Jeremy, I’ll be joining the race so I can’t watch over Marga! You should be there as support! Then, since I heard you’re a good cook, you can bring a post race meal for Marga…plus an extra serving for her dear friend who might be hungry too. That’s me ha. hehe

  33. good luck on your first tri !!! m envious…. dont know how to bike so count me out on this one…. for the swim… make sure you are relaxed (the magic formula really) so that your body will be in good floating position…. then swabeng kicking from the hips and hataw sa armwork, starting when your fingers touch the water overhead all the way to your hips, to make sure there is maximum glide w minimum effort ….. don’t forget head face down to make it easier to glide past the others ….!!!!! kayang kaya na ??? go for it!!!!

Allyn, you sound like a pro at swimming and you’re a good runner, ask Ever to teach you how to bike so you can join a tri already! :)
