Monday Morning Blues

I usually sing (or more like yell) “Oh what a beautiful morning!” in the car as I drive my kids to school on weekdays. My son rolls his eyes while my daughter, fortunately or unfortunately for her, stays dozed off in the backseat of the car.  Today, however, my children didn’t get any of mom’s singing; I was in an awfully sour mood.

I hardly had any sleep as I burned the midnight oil hoping to get a lot of work done to free up my load this week. I was still dreaming about my awesome weekend: ran 10k with Annie on Saturday then biked 11k/ ran 4k alone on Sunday and I could hardly believe it was Monday again.

My plan for this week was to run, run, and run while squeezing in a couple of swims for the upcoming triathlon this Sunday. If there’s extra time, I was also hoping to take a Bikram session and spend a day at the gym.  But, with the way things were going early this morning, I doubt if I’ll even have energy to keep my eyelids from falling the next few days. My deadlines are tight and I’ve got a lot of other tasks to accomplish while juggling the most demanding job of all: mommyhood.

Ah, such is life. One just learns to roll with the punches, to give 100% at every task even when weary and spent, and to pray to the high heavens that—despite the lack of training and sleep—one will survive the triathlon that one was crazy enough to sign up for. Gulp.

  1. monday is a curse heaped upon mankind.

that is why there is no such thing as “thank god, it’s monday”.

    Thank God monday’s almost over!

  3. Maybe it’s better to be well rested for Sunday than to cram in those extra miles and laps this week? So take it easy, get 8 hours of sleep and everything will be alright on your first tri.

I think people call that tapering hehe. It’s off to the gym tomorrow—not for a workout but our kids’ fieldtrip! Are you joining?

  4. I have the same feelings, not about the Monday blues but the “gulp” as you put it quite frankly, for the triathlon. The guy at the bike shop at the Fort, talked me into the sprint tri, can you believe it, I must be a sucker for punnishment. Let’s rest this week a bit and see what happen, we are going to roll of laughter at each other coming Sunday…

I think it’s only right you signed up for the sprint. Mini would have been too easy for you. See you foreignrunner!

  5. Sigh. Don’t worry, it’s not only you who despises (well, a bit too harsh) Mondays. But for the past few weeks, those Mondays had mercy on me. No classes for me! But now, I am absent on the first Monday of my 2nd Quarter in Gr. 5 because I’m sick. Oh well, make sure to still find time for relaxing and enjoying. (More of relaxing since running is fun, right? :) )

    Aww, get well soon, cougcat!

  7. Monday is start of a good week. Im sure you’ll do greaton race day. a typhoon is coming in so take it easy on the bike ride or you can do it indoors. but running in the rain is always the best. good luck

Thanks Pat. I’m wishing the sun comes out so I can indulge in a swim. Crossing my fingers right now :)

  8. the beauty of joining endurance sports is the pleasure of finishing it and never expecting to win at the top, so don’t pressure yourself and stay relaxed and rested days before your 1st tri. take this experience as your benchmark and learn from it. good luck and have fun!

Thanks BR! I do hope I get my much needed rest before the big day.

  11. Not me, I’m always thankful for Mondays when the season is on. It’s my day off from athletics!:) Anyway mommyhood is also training for a triathlon don’t you know. Heck a triathlon is easy next to mommyhood, at least there’s only 3 events, a finish line and you only need to do it once in awhile.
