Confirmed: Phil. Marathon on Feb 2009

It’s confirmed. The Philippine Marathon—initially cancelled—will be pushing through on February 22, 2009 thanks to the support of the ABS-CBN Foundation.

With that news confirmed by race organizer Gay Maddela and announced by Patrick C. via SMS yesterday, there were a lot of runners sporting wide grins and walking on cloud nine rejoicing over the fact that all the past months’ training had not gone for naught; there’s a confirmed marathon for February!  Woohoo!

As for Clark Marathon, I shall wait for news of this race, which is also scheduled for February 2009, and post it here once I find out.  (I separated List of Races 2008 and List of Races 2009 already.  See sidebar on the right.)

For now, I will keep myself busy happily training for my first full marathon in February 2009—whatever it may be.

  2. Jaymie, that’s really good news. The runners deserve a marathon and a top-notch one at that. I’m sure that ABS-CBN will do a great job with the organization.

Good luck with the training. Mine starts next Monday for next May’s Los Angeles Marathon.

  3. Full blast na ang bull runner! Good luck in your training Jaymie. Just don’t forget:injury-free pa rin ang priority okay?

I’m happy to tell you that I registered for my first 10k race at the PSE Bull Run on Jan. 18, 2009. I wish you’ll be there too. Well, you should! This race is named after you!

not that i’m worthy enough, but is this the aims certified boston marathon qualifier?

from what i gathered from bostonmarathon.org, there are only two, gay maddela’s international philippine marathon and sam tucay’s subic international marathon.

  6. As a faithful runner, I am really happy to hear that Philippines will have its marathon next year, I am sure I will try one there too but I will have to finish those in NYC and Berlin first…then…Greece…Hawaii…SF…can’t wait!

Though I think it will be a huge challenge for lots of runners to have it in the Phil due to its lovely hot temperature (luckily there are not much elevations) but I am sure many of you would be able to overcome with couple gallons of water with you while running means lots of preparations! Good luck, Jaymie, please don’t forget to consume tons of carbs for energy and bananas for potassium which help with cramping which will happen alot during the race. Also, Watch out for places which may occur blisters and try to prevent that beforehand coz they can be extremely annoying added to the pains from the cramps and mucles!!

Good luck to all my fellow pinoy runner friends there and have fun running! Remember, the moment when you are at the finish line while holding your medal, the feeling is priceless :)
