I have witnessed the BOTAK Paatibayan 100K race and all i can say is kudos to the organizers and the runners.

At the carbo loading night, I was just amazed to see all our great runners in one room. Everyone was just attentive to the instructions given to them and not a single primadona (person who worries about everything under the sun and drags everyone with him). They all came prepared to race, i would haver been worried about water station, signages- but these are different breed of runners.

Hours prior to the race, you'll see runners gathering, getting ready for the race. You'll see escorts getting instructions from organizers. Everything was well syncronized.

In the end I realized a great event is a partneship or the runners and the event organizers.

To see a 100K event go smoothly, is no easy task and this is one race we can be proud of.

I'll be expecting bigger and better races from our organizers.

Again, Kudos to 100K

Paa-moyan...

I think BOTAK delivered on the 100KM Race. If only you had seen the mobile blockade that they gave to the runners during that night... it was momentous and very awe inspiring.

3 Marshals for every participant. There was a bike marshal, Mobile police escort and a scooter marshal for one participant. They blocked out the commonwealth highway...

I think that is not an easy task to do especially in organizing a race. 100KM is not an easy feat... the permits that the organizers need to get the support from the govt and their own.

The race last sunday was one for the books. Kudos to the BOTAK new organizers!

Runner’s conundrum!

I’m not sure if I coursed this through the right means but I just would like to express my feelings about the race/run organizations in our country. I’m a newbie in the sport but I feel that there is a lack of professionalism amongst some of the organizers.

They would say the run will start at a certain time and would eventually end up starting an hour later. They would say that there would be an aid station every kilometer or mile or so, but not!

Are we just plagued by some inherent Filipino trait such as ningas kogon? I don’t think lack of resources is a good excuse…

As runners, I feel that we are bound by the clock, distance, challenge or at the very least the exactness of a challenge.

This is not a cry out to the runners to be prepared but to the organizers who bring false hopes. I beg you, please stick to your word. We are one community, one effort or one drive – to better ourselves. Don’t excuse lack of resources as an excuse.

As a community, can we break tradition and better ourselves?

That's kind of flimsy is it not. If the students are ill then they should not run. But do they also mean the students who are not ill cannot run during school holidays?

It's probably all for the best though. The sponsors should concentrate on one event and prove that their recent mistakes are one-off teething problems. Once they prove themselves capable then they can go for multiple events in one go.
