    • Hi Reylynne,

It’s great to know that you had a good time in Conquer Corregidor. It’s just a bummer that you were among those under-identified CONQUERORS in the race results. Please email me your full name at conquercorregidor@gmail.com and I will send you the full details of your race results. Who knows, you might find it very useful if ever there will be CC2. :-)

  2. Thx TBR.
Kudos to you, Edward and the organizer of this event- it was seamless and adventure filled….we hope there will be second edition so we can experience again running the killer hill…hopefully with less walk breaks kahit mabagal.

    • Hi :) 5KRUNNER,

It is indeed heart-warming to receive kind words from people you haven’t even met. It’s not that I only want to hear good things about the race. Of course there were lapses. And I took note of them and they were in parallel with many of the critiques I gathered. But that kind of pat on the shoulder makes me not regret the job as race director despite the limited resources, manpower, and strain on my health. Big thanks. Makes my suspicion grow stronger that running makes one more appreciative of things and grateful.

  4. what is the cut-off time for this race?

odie said on Dec 16 09 at 12:43 PM Reply
    • Hi odie,

The cutoff time is 3hrs after gunstart. I based it on our first test run when we walked and picture taking through the route. It took us roughly 3hrs and 15mins.

  5. Jaymie, thanks for posting these results and congrats on your finish in Singapore. I arrived in Manila four months ago and only recently started waking up early enough to run in races here! Corregidor was a great break from the city and a fantastic idea. The hills were wicked but equally hard for us all. My only suggestions for next year would be better mileage markers (I don’t recall seeing one until mile 7) and better course markings. At one point on the trail through the woods I saw a group of about 8 doubling back to a fork in the road – they went back the way we had come while another runner and I went ahead and apparently picked the right course. Later there was a short detour from the main road down to one of the historical sites, and on the way back from the turnaround I saw other runners who had completely missed the turnoff and stayed on the main road, saving themselves a couple of minutes. Anyway, it was a beautiful day and a challenging race, so I thank the organizers. PS your website is great and I refer to it often!

    • Hi Hale,

First off all allow me to say that if all critiques were worded or put in a manner the way you convey which is obviously rational and devoid of any vile, the I will find all means to reply. Thanks a lot for this. On your observation on the lack of course markings and sparse race marshals, I need to own up to it. No need to provide backstories on how and why it happen because to do so is akin to mudslinging other people involved in the race, I just realized. The buck has to stop on me. Rest assured that I took note of your suggestions. And I have a long list of no-no’s. Hehehe! One thing, about your note on lack of mile markers. I have two wild guesses on how you missed all nine mile signages. On all the first 6 water station tables, out of total 9, where the markers have been attached, you might have passed by them while there were hordes of runners milling around them hence they blocked the signage from your view or another guess is that by the time came across the hydration tables, those “adventurous” runners have already ripped off the first 6 mile markers from the table and took them for souvenir. I swear to all heroes of Corregidor that there were 9 mile markers on all nine hydration tables as I personally supervised their stapling at 5pm a day before and checked it again on the day of the race at 4am.

      • Edward, I just want to reiterate that it was a great race overall and I think anyone who participated would thank you for doing a great job. As far as the mile markers on the water tables, it could also be that I just didn’t see them as I have a tendency to “be in my own world” when I run!

  6. good race. very challenging! there were minor lapses, but the organizers can be easily forgiven because it’s an out-of-town race anyway. most runners are already asking for part-II.
strategy-wise, i think one would ought to walk on the killer-hill, because it came so early on the route. if a runner is just an ordinary one like me, he should prefer to just walk, or jog very slowly, on it in order to conserve his strength for the remainder of the race. besides, the runners would pass twice on that steep incline.

    • Hi Nolan,

Many thanks to your appreciation. In my book you are a real runner as you took note of the lapses yet you didn’t miss to appreciate what running, in general, gives. When you mentioned something about the killer-hill, it makes the sinister side of me give a dervish laughter. :-)

  7. hill?what hill?

i call it heart attack hill.how many degrees was it anyway?

in my 25 years of running, corregidor is the toughest course i’ve encountered! but i love it! yes, i confirm there were mile markers on the water stations.of course there were minor hitches here and there but the race and the course eventually made up for it.my 12 year old son ,who birdwatched along the way, finished it in about 4 hours.but he was very happy.and am sure most of the participants share the same feeling.bosing, let’s skip them hills next year hehehe.

    • Hi lactic acid,

Many thanks. And kudos to your son for finishing it in 4 hours. If I were his age, he would have trampled me over. Great kid. Gritty. Indeed a Conqueror.

And if ever the race directorship will be offered to me again and I were to accept it, other than the hills the tail of the island will be eager to get acquainted with all the runners. :-)

    • Hi Edward,

Great name. Were you able to note down your time from your watch as you crossed the finish line? Cutoff time btw was 12noon.

  10. thanks for posting jaymie!
hmmm 2:05, it was longer than 10-mi? (or did i get lost and run more…or the picture takings) my garmin stopped at 2:01 somewhere at the end of the last trail marking the 10-mi…well, oh well…who cares re time here? finishing it was more, more than enough.

it was a great race! btw, thanks edward for accomodating my last minute registration. the experience more than enough compensated the minor lapses-there’s always a next time :-)

& oh, despite the 3-hours waiting for check in to our room – the corregidor staff redeemed themselves easily with such a warm service.

Carlo Camilon said on Dec 19 09 at 11:58 PM Reply
    • Hi Carlo,

I checked and re-checked the master database for your name but was unable to retrieve your name. Bib no 122, unlike other cases of dual owners, only belongs to Ruby Dawn Allas as the records indicate. Is it possible for you to email your other info such as email address and mobile nbr to conquercorregidor@gmail.com? That way it ould help us trace your records and match your bib nbr. Tks.
