Cebu, Here I Come!

The last time I was in Cebu was over a decade ago. I was still a single, aggressive corporate slave working in a multinational company and we had a sales conference in Shangri-la Hotel Cebu. It was all about work, work, and more work.

As I return to Cebu (we leave tomorrow morning and head back Sunday), it’s going to be all fun; the trip will revolve around two things I love: family and running. The hubby and I will run 21k at the Cebu Marathon on Sunday, while we take the kids on a tour of the province before race day.

I’m not quite sure if I’m prepared for this half marathon for the following reasons:

  1. My mind is still partially on Holiday vacation mode
  2. I feel heavy (2 lbs heavier in fact)
  3. I’m not familiar with the weather and course

But, I also expect to enjoy my run and have a whole lot of fun regardless of my finish time due to the following reasons:

  1. My mind is still partially on Holiday vacation mode
  2. I feel heavy (2 lbs heavier in fact)
  3. I’m not familiar with the weather and course

Needless to say, it is for the same reasons that I expect to have a fantastic experience at Cebu. I’m letting go of the reins and listening to my body.  If it tells me to take it easy on my sluggish body, slow down, and enjoy the new sights, sounds, and people of Cebu on foot, then I will do so.  If it commands me to speed up because I’m strong enough to achieve my (ehem) secret goal, then so be it.  Either way, I’m going to allow myself to enjoy every moment of my first race for the year!

Looking forward to meeting you all, Cebuano runners!

  1. Wow! Will finally get to meet you. =)

By the way there’s going to be a Sinulog Kiddy Run on January 9 at 6AM at the Banilad Town Center.

It is open to Elementary Runners (Grades 1-7, Ages 6-13)

    Registration Fee is P150

You may call BTC at (032) 345-3260.

The flyer does not indicate the distance. I thought maybe TBR Jr. might want to join.

  3. Hi Bullrunner! I will be running the 21K too just like you and your hubby! The course will take us to heart of the city, and we will pass by the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño de Cebu. I don’t know if you are a Catholic, but if you are, when you guys pass by the church, make a wave at the altar, so the Child Jesus will give you blessings. Our U-turn slot will be at Kawit Point (This was actually an island where leprosy patients used to be quarantined, but is now part of the reclaimed area known as the South Road Properties.)
The terrain is relatively flat with some few inclines e.g. the SRP bridge, the area near Fuente Osmeña, Escario St., (before and after Capitol Parish) and Gorordo Ave. (The street is named after the first Filipino Bishop of Cebu), fronting UP Cebu.

As for the weather here, it’s been humid! I don’t know how humid it is compared to Singapore, but it is humid! It’s pretty hot while running the SRP, and the strong sea breeze might hamper your pace. This is not scaring you guys, but I tried running on this area, but this is where the challenging part. Good thing the 21K runners will be running until Kawit Point.

But over-all just enjoy your run! I hope to see you in the starting pen, and Pit Senyor!

PS: Our assembly time will be at 4:30 in the morning and our start will be 5:10 am.
PS2: All roads along the course will be closed. So runners will not get bumped by those motor vehicles. I almost got bumped twice while preparing for this.
