Oatmeal Freak

I used to loathe oatmeal. My mom would make my sister and I eat this for breakfast before school. Before I even picked up the spoon, I would feel like throwing up.  I never ate oatmeal again…until I got married.

Hubby introduced Quakers Old-Fashioned oatmeal into my life.  (No, this is not a paid advertisement!) Much like the way I stumbled into running, I got a quick taste of it, fell in love, and got wildly obsessed over it.

Oatmeal

This old-fashioned oatmeal isn’t like the local oatmeal that mom used to serve, mushy and soggy.  This one (in carton cylinders in the grocery) has bits of oats that you can munch on, and it’s less sweet.  I eat mine with almonds, granolas, bananas, or peaches depending on my mood.  I drop low-fat milk and a bit of honey and I’m good to go.

When I’m feeling a bit heavy (or I’m being good with my diet), I usually have it for lunch since it keeps me full all throughout the day.  If I could, I’d have it for dinner too!

  3. You should try australian harvest rolled oats. It has a chewy texture that kind of pops when you bite it, yummy!

  4. Jaymie–from one former oatmeal hater to another, may I suggest you try steel-cut oats? This is the only oatmeal Oprah will eat—so it’s good enough for me haha! It’s chewier and miles (or km) away better tasting than any other and I too have become a convert. It takes longer to cook but I just make a big batch ahead and microwave it in the morning. Available at Healthy Options and better grocery stores.

    • Michelline, I heard about it on Oprah too and I held it for the longest time at Healthy Options, but i was concerned about the cooking time. Never thought about cooking a batch ahead. I’ll try it out! Thanks!

  5. I love old fashioned oatmeal! I have it for breakfast everyday. I mix it with peanut butter, banana, raisin & nuts (walnut, pili, pecan). It’s a complete healthy meal. You can also mix in apples, cinnamon, raisin, nuts & honey. Yummy!

  7. I was an oatmeal hater too early on but I had to forced myself to eat it and love it when I had my baby. I love the rolled oats version. I just cook them slow for 2 mins and eat them while they’re steaming hot. :) )
