Today is the First Day of the Rest of Your Life

Monday, 17 October 2011  |  Bullish Insights

October 17 is DAY ONE of the 22-week TBR Dream Marathon Training Program.  For all 600 of our TBR Dream Marathoners, this could very well be the first day of the rest of your life.  You turn a new leaf.  You embrace new challenges that will make you a better, stronger you.  And, last but not the least, you take that first step towards achieving your marathon dream!  (Yeah!  Wasn’t that an Oprah moment?)

TrainingProgram
– You should have reviewed this TBR Dream Training Program included in your registration kit. Better yet, you should have made copies and posted them all over the house and at your office! –

Remember: we won’t run all your training runs together.  That is YOUR homework.  We expect full commitment and dedication from you.  We will, however, be together twice a month for our Bull Sessions and Bull Circles.

BULL SESSION 1: OCTOBER 22, 2011

Our first Bull Session is this coming Saturday, 22 October 2011, in front of Krispy Kreme in Bonifacio High Street.  Our head coach for all our Bull Sessions will be Coach Lit Onrubia, certified Chi Running Instructor, together with Edward Kho who will assist us.  This will follow our training program which requires a long walk of 45 minutes.

Date: Saturday, October 22, 2011
Assembly time: 5:30 AM
Start at 6:00 AM
Venue: in front of Krispy Kreme, Bonifacio High Street
Programme: Short talk on Chi Walking followed by long walk of 45 mins. Those who want to run may do so.
Why should you attend?

  • If you are a new runner, start with walking to gradually introduce your body to running
  • If you are a runner who plans to use the RUN-WALK sequence in long runs/marathons which we recommend and we’ll apply in all our long runs, this talk will teach you how to walk efficiently with less fatigue
  • If you signed up for TBR Dream 2012, just show up to meet your batchmates!  It’s going to be fun!

TBR DREAM E-NEWSLETTER

We just finalized all 600 runners last week.  This week, we shall be sending out emails inviting you to join the TBR Dream E-group.  Please accept the invite to stay updated on our upcoming events.  This will be the primary way we’ll be getting in touch with you.

We will be sending via this email group the benefits of the TBR Dream Card which you received during registration.

TBR DREAM FACEBOOK GROUP

Within the next couple of weeks, you’ll be receiving invites to join the TBR DM FB group.  Please accept this as well.  This is an exclusive group for TBR Dream Alumni and current runners.

That’s it for now!  Remember: do your homework runs and we’ll see you on Saturday!  I shall leave you with more Oprah-ish quotes to start your training week right: Live your best life NOW!

Hafa Adai from Guam!

Friday, 14 October 2011  |  Bullish Insights

Hafa Adai! Pronounced “half a day” in english, that means “Hello!” in Chamorro, the native language here in Guam. See, we arrived here in the wee hours of this morning—4:45am to be exact—and I’ve nearly assimilated into the Chamorro culture! Hah!

I won’t go into the full details yet of everything we did today because wow we did quite a lot! (Thanks to the Guam Visitors Bureau.) But, I will tell you this: After seeing the roads of Guam, I’m so looking forward to running the Guam Ko’Ko’ Road Race this Sunday!

Amidst the flurry of activities today, we managed to claim my race kit. I like the quality of the shirt. I’m glad that they’re probably serving Gatorade on the course (I noticed it’s the sponsor). And, lastly, I love the 10% discount coupon at Macy’s!  Woohoo!

I also made a new friend this morning, the only other person I know who is running the Ko’Ko’ Race this Sunday. Meet Ronnie, an immigration officer at the Guam Airport who has roots in Iloilo but was born and raised in Guam. Ronnie almost scared me to death this morning by walking up to me in his black uniform by the immigration booths saying “Hayme?” I thought I was going to be questioned and directed to some Immigration office, so I nervously answered: “Yes. Jaymie.”  He introduced himself and said that he actually reads this blog! Don’t you just love bumping into runners all over the world?!  Ronnie is running his first 21k on Sunday so wish him luck!

– All the best on Sunday, Ronnie! You’ll do great! –

There’s a lot of stories and pictures to share, but I’ll have to get some rest now. I’ve only had 1.5 hours of sleep since yesterday and I’m getting up early tomorrow morning for a swim. My new running buddy (see below) and I will chat with you soon!

Preggy Mom Runs Chicago Marathon at 9 Months and Gives Birth 7 hours After

Wednesday, 12 October 2011  |  Bullish Insights

Amber Miller ran Chicago Marathon last October 9, 2011 in 6 hours and 25 minutes.

Get this: she was 39-weeks pregnant.  7 hours after, she gave birth to a 7.7 lb. healthy baby girl.

Read the full story HERE and HERE.

———————————-

Wow.  She is one strong and determined running mommy!  I struggle with the thought of lugging two extra 8-oz bottles around my waist for 42km.  I found carrying my dearest babies in my tummy for 9 months uncomfortable and challenging.  In fact, during the last week before delivery, I refused to do anything but watch the clock until my baby popped out! Hah! Yet, here’s Amber Miller working her way through 42km on her last hours before delivery!

I’m amazed.  I’m happy that things went well for her and her baby.  And, I won’t judge her for what she felt was the right thing to do because, after all, it’s her body and she knows it best.  But, if you asked me if I would ever run a 42k at anytime during my pregnancy.  My answer would be an emphatic NO.

I love my running.  And, if I were pregnant, I would probably run 5ks to 10ks for fitness with my doctor’s approval.  But, I just wouldn’t dare risk any harm to my unborn child to run a marathon.  Marathons can wait; they will always be there for me to run.

Quite frankly, I don’t think I would survive a running a marathon pregnant, anyway—unless, of course, the hubby provided green mangoes with bagoong, foot massages, and a Lamaze coach along the way!  Okay, no, that still wouldn’t get me to do it!

How about you running mommies: would you run a 42k while pregnant?
