2. Jamie, what’s your take on running a marathon distance alone? I intend to do one on March, on the Sunday following my birth date. I’ve plotted out the distance from the municipal hall of our town, up to the half-way point along Ortigas Avenue extension, and back. I’ve been logging, I hope, the necessary number of miles and speed drills, targeting to finish that distance below 6 hours and 1/2. Over the past months, I’ve befriended ‘suki’ stores and carinderias along the way whom I intend to make water points. I’m working on my wife and my 12 year old daughter for the support I’ll need by driving ahead past the 21K point and wait for me every 5K after that…and waking up at 1 or 2 a.m. as I intend to start running at either 2 or 3 a.m. Anyway, to join your TBR Dream Marathon is a desire, but my work schedule really doesn’t allow it. I have a five week cycle that takes me around the country, leaving every Wed.of the week and back on Saturday late flights, or worse, Sunday early mornings. Apart from work clothes, laptop, etc. it’s my running stuff that sits on top of the pile inside my carry-on check-in luggage, careful not to squash my running shoe. I’ve done a half marathon (Milo), when I was based Cebu 10 years ago. I accomplished this; I know I can do this 42+K as well. At this point it does not matter anymore that it may not be official; the Lord witnessing this, hopefully my wife and daughter, and my heart, will suffice. I implore if the Bull Sessions; if these are inputs, exercises, etc., if available in email format, etc.; can they be sent my way so I can learn from these? I don’t have a coach and get my inputs from RW site, etc., re-reading Dr. Sheehan’s books, and listening to my body when I go for runs. I am 185 pounds (down from 199), my Right leg is shorter by a few millimeters, which I compensate for with heel lifts. I have very high arches and I fashion all kinds of inserts to support my arch lest I develop plantar fasciitis because of my weight. I am a “fast runner” Jamie; the open and close quote marks should give you an idea of what I mean without over-emphasizing it. But my legs are strong, my knees are tough, and my spirit is doubly stubborn. I’d appreciate learning from you and the sessions, even if the inputs are just by email.
