ABOUT THE CORDILLERA GREAT TRAVERSE
CGT operates under the organization Philippine Trail Conservation and Events, Inc. (PhilTrace). The Regional Development Center-Cordillera Administrative Region (RDC-CAR) endorses the conduct of all activities of CGT under an RDC-CAR Executive Resolution signed on October 2, 2014, and ratified on October 8, 2014, which facilitates all coordination activities with the locals. The Team Members are all certified Philippine Red Cross first aiders and are working closely with Team Rescue 8.

CGT2015 was launched in July 1, 2014 with the goal to Connect, Explore and Protect the Philippine Cordillera Trail.

The CGT is driven by a three part action plan that will eventually involve public participation; the objectives follow:

CONNECT
Establish the longest and most scenic trekking/hiking trail destination in the Philippines through research, mapping, immersion with the locals, and actual reconciliation of the trails of each province. This will be realized by the CGT Expedition team which will embark on a single push in April 2015 to cover the entire expanse of the traverse.

EXPLORE
Learn and share the culture of each of the ethnic groups who’ve held the mountains as their home for centuries, with the locals as our guide, to establish the trails and lead us to discover more about the region. In time, the public will be provided with access to different trails across the traverse that will cater to individual and group capabilities and fitness levels.

PROTECT
Mutually exchange knowledge with the locals on how to protect the mountains and together with the Cordillerans be the advocates of protection of the Cordillera Mountains and its beauty. This will showcase the diverse natural beauty, cultural heritage and cool climate of the region.

The Team and Where We Are Now
The CGT 2015 Team consists of National Geographic explorers, adventurers, nature lovers, ultrarunners, environmentalists, mountaineers, and fitness enthusiasts. As of today, CGT consists of strong team members contributing not just their solid athletic background but also their talent and skills as professionals in order to move the expedition forward.
The CGT 2015 Team is working in partnership with the Regional Development Council of the Cordillera Administrative Region and the local municipalities and communities, Team Rescue 8 and Philippine Red Cross Rizal Chapter-Makati Branch, Cordillera Conservation and Trust, Inc and environmentalists, sponsors Smart Communications, Inc., Suunto, Berocca, Hi-cool Engineering Corporation, 100-Miles Cafe, Hunts, Blend 45, Dans Ph-Go-pro Philippines, donors and supporters and volunteers to achieve its goals. Local brands Vamos Socks, Boon Shirts and The Perfect White Shirt are also supporting CGT with their high quality products that are ideal for the outdoors. Part of the proceeds from the sales of the special CGT Shirts and Socks goes to CGT.

It will take years of work, community support and financial resources to build the Philippine Cordillera Trail but we have taken the initial steps and have established the connecting trails of the six provinces and the charter city of Baguio.

The Expedition
The Philippine Cordillera Trail will be launched with an Expedition that starts on April 1, 2015 in Apayao, the northernmost province of the region and shall traverse through Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Benguet, ending in the charter city of Baguio.

The Cordillera Great Traverse will take the strongest members of the team to travel on foot for 10-15 days and set the first known record of traverse the Philippine Cordillera Trail. The momentous event will also take everyone on an EXPEDITION THROUGH THE BEAUTY OF THE PHILIPPINE CORDILLERA!
