Change is Good!

Friday, 13 June 2014  |  Bullish Insights

For 2014, I told myself I wouldn’t resist change, but I would embrace it.  Well, it looks like I went a bit overboard!

Tonight I am launching the new The Bull Runner logo and TheBullRunner.com layout.

SCREENSHOT

This is the first redesign of the TBR logo ever since I designed the original identity on a whim, in 15 minutes, when I created this blog.  I thought it was about time that I made it look more contemporary, strong and simple, yet striking.

As for the layout,  I believe this redesign comes after over 3 years using the old layout which I felt was cluttered and confusing (much like my life then! LOL)  Every year, I would dream of creating a new fresh look, but life always got in the way. This time, I committed to working on the design bit by bit whenever I had spare time from work or training (i.e., on long flights, while waiting at doctor’s clinics, sitting in the car in traffic).  With the help of my fantastic web designers (and TBR Dream Alum, mind you) Marc and Gail Villanueva of Intuitiv Solutions and Cres Yulo who shot my photo in all of 15 minutes right in her condo, I was finally able to launch this little part of me on the world wide web.  Thank you Marc, Gail, and Cres!

For this year, I have bigger and more exciting plans!  Hope you can join the journey with me!

What do you think about the new layout?  Any new topics, articles, or features you’d like to see on running?  Just let me know!

Are you joining 2014 Run United 2 tomorrow? I’ve signed up for 21k.

Tonight, I’ll be on my knees praying that the weather cooperates tomorrow. I’m hoping all 10,000 plus runners do the same so we have greater chances haha!

I’m looking forward to the new race start at Km 0 in Luneta Park. Traffic may be a bit more difficult, but I think it’s great that we experience new race starts with the opportunity to improve our races every year.

While I may not get that great looking medal for 32k finishers, I’m pretty excited about the 21k Finishers’ Shirt. Love the design!

See you at Run United 2 tomorrow, runners!

TBR on The Bro Show

BrosShow

I had a blast talking about running and TBR Dream Marathon at The Bro Show with TBRDM Alumni Mico Halili and Jason Webb a couple of weeks ago. It was also great to relive young love vicariously through the new Kiefer Ravena and Mika Reyes (#miefer) budding romance haha!

You Know It’s Too Hot to Run When…

ANG INIT!  Not a day passes when these words aren’t said or written online.  The heat is unbelievable and unforgiving, yet we still go out there and run!  Here’s what I thought of yesterday as distraction while running (or suffering) on the treadmill in a crazy, hot gym.  Feel free to add your own:

YOU KNOW IT’S TOO HOT TO RUN WHEN…

You’re sweating while you’re lacing up your shoes.

You’re seriously considering cutting off the sleeves of your favorite running shirt.

That Gatorade bottle you froze last night? It defrosted in 10 seconds.

You unfollow that friend who posts running pics abroad in 10 degree weather.

You carry P500 in your pocket while running around Bonifacio Global City for all the Slurpees you’re going to gulp down from every 7-11 you pass.

Bawal. Magsalita. It’s too tiring to talk.

It’s humid even INSIDE the gym!

You’re afraid to leave your running shoes in the car for fear they’d melt.

The only other people on the road are ultramarathoners who have gone to hell and back and decided to run in hell again with you today.

After a run, your clothes cling to you like you swam in them and you wonder how you’ll peel them off.

You tap yourself on the back for surviving a gruelling tempo run in the heat only to realize it was much slower than an LSD.

A good recovery drink should have carbs + protein + lots. of. ice.

Just thinking of running leaves you exhausted, but you do it anyway…because 1) You’re nuts and 2) You’re a runner!

Happy Mother’s Day!

Saturday, 10 May 2014  |  Bullish Insights

Happy Mother’s Day to my iron supermom! My mom raised all seven of us kids and made it look oh-so easy. She was never athletic, but I say that caring for all of us took more guts and endurance than any marathon. Love ya, Mom!

MomTBRTBR Mommy. Don’t you love her shirt? LOL

The-CrisostomosFamily pic. I’m the littlest one.

Happy Mother’s Day to all running Mommies too (and I’m not just talking about the athletes!) I think all mothers are running all over the place constantly striving to balance family, careers, and the rest of their lives so that they can be the best they can be. No mommy is perfect, but we all try our darn best to be!

For those of you who would like to treat you Mom to a special gift, hop on over to Move or Runnr tonight or tomorrow!  To my kids, if you’re reading this, you can get me the Halo headband below…or an iPad mini.  Either one of those will do. Tsk tsk.
