LIVESTRONG TWILIGHT CHALLENGE RIDE SLATED FOR MAY 20

Livestrong Philippines in cooperation with Ortigas & Co. premiere development, Circulo Verde, has slated this year’s Twilight Challenge Bike Ride on May 20, which is expected to gather at least 1,000 cyclists from Metro Manila and nearby cities.

The Livestrong – Circulo Verde Twilight Challenge Bike Ride will cover over twenty-one kilometers starting from Circulo Verde, Bagumbayan, Quezon City, passing by other key Metro Manila landmarks including the Ortigas Business District, Tiendesitas at Frontera Verde, and Greenhills Shopping Center.

“Our thrust is to convince people that living a healthier and more active lifestyle is essential in preventing cancer; that the road to good health starts by making small commitments like eating the right food, exercising, and quitting bad habits like smoking,” says Eric Bergara, Community Representative for Team Philippines Benefitting Livestrong.

Livestrong is an affiliate of the Lance Armstrong Foundation that aims to improve the lives of people affected by cancer. This year’s ride attempts to reunite 2010 and 2011 Livestrong Day Philippines supporters and hopefully enjoin more people for the cause.

Event co-sponsor Ortigas & Co. is a known developer of green communities like Circulo Verde, Tiendesitas, and Greenhills Shopping Center.

“In Ortigas, we believe that it is the developer’s job to create the ideal conditions for leisure and living. Our communities are all designed to have ample space for play, exercise, picnics, and barbecue parties. Circulo Verde, for example, which spans 12-hectares, has allotted 70% open space to make room for parks, biking, jogging, and walking lanes. Hopefully, people can get a preview of a healthy and active lifestyle in Circulo Verde, true to the vision of Livestrong, ” says Joey Santos, General Manager of the Real Estate Division for Ortigas & Co.

Twilight Ride participants are requested to wear yellow and gather at Circulo Verde as early as 3:00 PM in time for the 3:30 PM gun start. The event would be capped off with a band performance, an outdoor barbecue, and a Zumba Dance Party facilitated by Gold’s Gym.

Registration is done online at a fee of P300.00 inclusive of snacks, while jerseys will be sold on site for P500.00 at a first come first served basis. Proceeds of the event will go the beneficiaries of Livestrong Foundation in the Philippines.

In Unilab ActiveHealth’s continuing efforts to promote an active and healthy lifestyle among families, 2012 Run United will have its second leg on June 17, 2012 at SM Mall of Asia.

Kids from age 5 to 12 years old can join the Ceelin 500-meter dash to jumpstart their journey to fitness. Moms, dads and older siblings can choose from the different race categories like 3km, 5km, 10km, and 21km.

Registered participants of 500-meter dash, 3km, 5km, and 10km will receive their singlet upon registration. The Active Health race belt bag, bib with timing chip, and Riovana 10% discount stub can be claimed during the 1st ever Run United race expo scheduled on June 13-16, 2012 at BGC Grounds Riovana from 2pm to 8pm on June 13 and 10am to 8pm on June 14-16.

The participants of the 21k category will have a different singlet color design which makes the runners extra special, aside from the freebies that they will get during the race expo in BGC and the 2nd piece of the collectible medal and finisher shirt. Asia’s Fastest Growing Destination Marathon Set for Record Numbers

Hundreds of runners from around the world will “Run Paradise” in the seventh annual Laguna Phuket International Marathon on Sunday, 10 June, to re-affirm its status as Asia’s fastest growing family-friendly destination marathon.

International registrations opened in October and since then entries have surged ahead of the same period last year, with total international entries now close to 1,000.

Local entries opened on 1 April to great enthusiasm and the final number is expected to exceed last year’s record of some 5,000 participants from 45 countries.

The biggest international group so far is Japan, with more than 200 runners, followed by Singapore (96) and Hong Kong (78).

Year-on-year growth since the inaugural 2006 event with less than 2,000 runners makes Laguna Phuket International Marathon Asia’s biggest and fastest growing destination marathon.

Its “Run Paradise” tagline is an apt description, with runners of all ages and abilities on a mainly flat course that takes in rubber and pineapple plantations, beach views, local villages and the tropical lagoons of Laguna Phuket – all in a family-friendly carnival atmosphere.

As well as the full marathon there’s a 21.1km half marathon and 10.5km run, with families catered for with the 91.5FM 5km community walk and 2km children’s race.

A two-day expo with sponsor booths and fun activities around Laguna Phuket will stoke the carnival atmosphere.

Event Director, Roman Floesser, of organiser Go Adventure Asia, said: “We encourage runners to enjoy the scenery and have a fantastic race experience instead of pushing themselves to achieve personal best times.

“It’s all about participation and having fun in a great atmosphere.”

On March 31, 2012, Salomon will be hosting the Salomon Xtrail Pilipinas in Tagaytay Highlands.  Woohoo! I’m joining the 12k for this one!

The course includes 3 different categories, catering to all running levels—from beginners to elite athletes. All distances include a road-to-trail terrain, with 6km & 12km distances for beginners & intermediate trail runners. The 24km category will include vertical ascents, simulating a “mountain run” for which Salomon embodies, being a “Mountain sports company.”

The Salomon Xtrail Pilipinas event is a GREEN RUN event, meaning no plastic cups & bottles will be given away & used. All runners are encouraged to bring their own hydration belt/gear/bag.

We’ve prepared a lot of things for you on the course:

1. Water stations – 8 water stations at approximately every 1.5km.  Oh, and there’s ice to make sure the water is cold.
2. Gatorade stations – 8 Gatorade stations at approximately every 1.5km.
3. Key stations – These are pumped up stations.  We have 2 key stations which will have the following: sponges, bananas, Toblerone, Tigertail, Bodivance, ice and petroleum jelly.  Yes, we think of everything!
4. Basic First aid – Medic at every other station.
5. Portalets along the course.
6. Dream Mobile – Friends and family can hop on this shuttle for free to cheer for you on the course.
7. Band and Music – We have a band at the major turnaround and music at the Start / Finish.
8. Dream Chasers – We have 4 Dream Chaser stations with 15 Dream Chaser volunteers in each tent waiting to cheer and motivate you along the way.
9. Secondwind Zone – At the Abrio-Solenad area, Team Secondwind will be ready to support you during the marathon
10. Matadors and Flamenco dancers – Matadors will hand you your medal while girls in flamenco dancers (they won’t dance though) will give you a cold towel.
11. Photos along the course.  Smile, you’ll never know who’s taking your photo.  Action shots and finish line shots will be available for download a week after the race.
12. Finish line photo – After you get your medal, go straight to our photowall and smile again!  A photographer will shoot you with your shiny new Finisher’s Medal.  Photo will be available for download a week after the race.
13. Dream Village – This is the first time we’re doing this!  We’ve got massage and stretching, icing, free samples along with your lootbag and Finisher’s shirt.
