Over 15,000 runners trooped to the South for Condura Skyway Marathon at Filinvest City last February 1, 2015. A whopping 5,629 participants registered for the 42km making this the biggest local marathon to date.  4,989 registered for 21k, 2,953 signed up for 10k, and 1,808 joined the 6k. With Hero Foundation as its race beneficiary, Condura Skyway Marathon aptly used the tagline: Run for a Hero. With the recent tragic loss of the 44 PNP-SAF in the Mamasapano massacre, it became, for many runners, a meaningful way to honor our fallen heroes. Some marathoners ran an additional 2k to cover 44km, other runners ran 44 minutes, and some simply offered the run for them.  The race was organized by Condura’s Ton and Patrick Concepcion at the helm and Runrio. Run for Heroes on 24 August

Run-for-heroes

August 25 is National Heroes Day in the Philippines.  It is a national public holiday, held every last Monday of August, to honor and remember the country’s National heroes, men and women in Philippine history whose acts of courage enabled the Philippines to grow as a nation. Our known national heroes are:  Jose Rizal, Andres Bonifacio,Emilio Aguinaldo, Apolinario Mabini, Marcelo H. del Pilar, Sultan Dipatuan Kudarat, Juan Luna, Melchora Aquino, Gabriela Silang.

During National Heroes Day, honor and salute are also given to those unknown heroes whose lives were given up for our peace and democracy.  Although there are commemorations and parades and wreath laying at shrines, etc., many of our youth no longer appreciate or know the significance of this day. Hence, HERO Foundation, through its upcoming activities, in cooperation with the Armed Forces of the Philippines, hopes to draw attention back to the importance of this day, to celebrate, with gratitude, for all our heroes. Ayala Malls’ Wrapped in Love

Wednesday, 14 November 2012  |  News + Promos

I attended the Ayala Malls’ Wrapped in Love press conference yesterday as an ambassador of Hero Foundation. In behalf of Hero Foundation, I was asked to share a little bit about Hero Foundation and how we can help orphans of fallen soldiers this Christmas.  It was a pleasure to be with other Hero ambassadors present in the event, namely Piolo Pascual (Papa P.!), Nikki Gil, and 6cyclemind.

Ayala Malls will be having its Christmas Kindness Sale where some of the Hero ambassadors have donated items that will be sold to the public.  Funds will go to Hero Foundation.  In all Ayala Malls as well, you’ll see donation boxes where you may donate cash to help an orphan.

Now, if you’re a runner, perhaps you would like to pledge a certain amount for every kilometer you run.  We’ve encouraged our TBR Dream Marathon runners to do this on their marathon on February 24, 2013, but you’re more than welcome to help as well!  After all, it’s the season for sharing!  Click HERE to find out how.

Hero Concert and Golf Tournament

Thursday, 23 August 2012  |  News + Promos

I had the pleasure of being invited to be a brand ambassador of HERO FOUNDATION.  I’ve worked with them since 2011 when some of our proceeds from TBR Dream Marathon were donated to the foundation.  Since then, all TBR events donate a portion of the proceeds to HERO.  Last year, all proceeds from sales of our TBR merchandise went to HERO too.  We also encourage our TBR Dream Marathon runners to pledge to run for HERO.  It gives more meaning to our runs, to run for others, and it brings joy to those around us, which is a good thing especially with so much sadness lately.

HERO Foundation was founded by President Corazon C. Aquino and then AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Renato De Villa.  It provides educational stipends to military orphans which helps keep them in school and covers other requirements such as school supplies, transportation, meals and even a portion of their tuition fee. Read more about HERO on their website.

Anyway, this has nothing to do with running (sorry!), but allow me to post anyway since it’s for a good cause.  HERO will be having a concert in Naga and a golf tournament too.  Hope you can make it!

Running for HERO Foundation

Wednesday, 16 March 2011  |  News + Promos

As we mentioned, TBR Dream Marathon has chosen Hero Foundation as its beneficiary.  HERO foundation provides educational stipend support to children of soldiers who are killed-in-action or are permanently incapacitated while in combat duty.

Some runners who have raised funds for HERO are:

1. Jhun Oro : an employee of Integreon Managed Solutions. He finished the 42.2km Condura Skyway marathon for HERO Foundation and raised P7,460 just by collecting pledges from friends and family.

2. Garry Garcia : finished the Bataan Death March 102km last March 5-6 2011. He collected pledges P5/P10 for every km he ran and will donate this to HERO.

For TBR Dream Marathoners, we encourage you to run your first or second marathon for others!  Click HERE for more info.
