The North Face 100…Ultras & Trails, anyone?

tnf100

Boy oh boy, I can hardly contain my excitement. Trail running and ultramarathoning is finally hitting our shores! Are you up for this?

Venue and other details are still being finalized for The North Face 100, but it is definitely pushing through.

The Team Pinoy Ultra Runners will be training for this event. The team will be organizing an ultramarathon training program which will start around May and they are inviting anyone interested to join them. For inquiries, please email Neville Manaois directly at pinoyultrarunners@yahoo.com.

As for me, I’m eager to join the 10k trail runs. No more drooling over Rick and E-rod’s scenic courses. We’re finally having our fair share of trail runs in the country. Finally!

  5. Finally! Where there are hills and trees there are trails. I hope they come up with a good course. Wow Northface is really expanding their program. Their program debuted here in the US last year with mixed reviews but they are continuing and I’m sure improvements have already been made to make them even better.

  6. Ok ok … running life can’t be this good, my 2 favorite outdoor activities (running and trekking) married … TRAIL RUNNING!!! Woohoo!!! I’m glad it’s TNF sponsoring this activity, why? There’s a high probability they will prioritize minimizing the impact of this GRAND event on nature and hopefully educate (Leave No Trace Principle) the non-climbing community and general public on appreciating and conserving the beauty of this wonderful place we call home. Till the day comes, let’s train responsibly and safely : )

  15. hi TBR ms Jaymie… Im eager and excited to join this Northface Trail Run just 10k event. Actually im waiting the Mens Heath 10k Trail run in Timberland San Mateo Rizal every mo of May but walang balita pa until now?.. Nanalo kc ako last year dun althouh first timer sa trail run, i got 6th Place overall, 2nd Place Age category 40 – 49.

  16. Hi Jaymie,

Sorry for the ingnorance but in Ultramarathons, do the runners actually run the whole way without stopping? Or are they allowed a pit stop in between? This seems interesting although baka di ko kaya. The longest I’ve ever done was a 25k at New Balance.

Any news where the 10k trail run will be held? I normally run in my weekend home inside UP Los Banos – sometimes up in Forestry, or Jamboree, the lower campus and/or IRRI depending on the mood. However, its not really trail running per se since I run on the roads. The same is true for the annual 10k Makiling Challenge with only a portion of the course passing through trails.

  17. Jaymie,

By the way, speaking of celebrities, was that you at Chowking after the On Your Mark Run? My running buddy thought he kinda recognized you. :)

  19. TBR! the nearest and nice trail run i know would be the Timberland Heights area in San Mateo, I’m there every weekend either mountain biking or trail running…nice 360 degree view of the city and the montalban and antipolo ranges, you’ll see tagaytay on the south and as far as mount arayat on the north…Men’s health holds the mtb and trail running races there too…I’m training for the San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon on June 1st so gotta run those hills…slowly, really slow…haha…there’s picnic grounds there too so no problem…for a guide of the area email me at mondordona@gmail.com or call my cell at 09063115719…i’ll be more than glad to take you anyone around…my family barbecues at one of the peaks there…so child friendly too…and by the way, trail running and mountain biking at night is fairly safe!!!

  21. Hi Bull Runner, I just linked your flicker pic of the ad to my site. Hope you don’t mind. I’m excited with this since as an archipelago, we have the best trails to run around just in case 100k’s runs explode like mushroom soon. I already sent an e-mail to Neville, hope he accepts my application to train with them. And I hope it’s in near UP too since I go home to fairview during weekends.

  22. Jaymie,

Pwede ka pa pala mamula… hehehe Soon after maroon na yan.

Yup, mommy should come first. : )

  23. Totoy, I’m not surprised nanalo ka! Congrats kahit super late. 100k ba sa North Face? :)

Malmon911, I’m not a trail runner myself but definitely the decision to slow down or walk is up to you. I’m sure it’s slower than a road race due to the terrain. Some runners are more concerned about their time while others relish every moment by enjoying the view or taking photos. Some of the other more experienced trail runners here can help answer your question. Nope, that wasn’t me in Chowking :)

Caloyb, I’m sure there will be a next time.

Mond, so that’s where you train! Nice! thanks for the tips. Good luck with your marathon! A little over a month to go. Kwento ha.

    Dean…I mean…Happykoko, enjoy your training!

Mark, pagkatapos itim na…dahil sa training!
