Drenched

The hubby and I started our run last night at exactly 7:46 p.m. At 7:47 p.m., just as we exited the gate of my in law’s home, it started to drizzle. Hubby asked “Rain or shine?” And, I replied with a smile “Yup!”  Before we even reached a full kilometer, it was pouring. Hubby offered his cap, but I declined wanting to feel the rain on my face. (How dramatic!)

Our first few kilometers was almost serene. We were talking in the beginning, but once the rain got stronger, we both fell into a comfortable silence. Sounds of the rain falling on rooftops, the croaking of frogs, and our shoes hitting the pavement was like a celebration of nature.

Never mind that I almost stepped on two bullfrogs and played patintero with a third, or that I had to squint to avoid the rain from hitting my eyes, or that both of us ran as if we were in an obstacle course avoiding puddles and holes.  Never mind if we ended with our shoes, socks, and insoles completely soaked and hubby worried that my wet top had already gone transparent (which it had but thank God for sports bras!)

Who cares if I’m typing this now with a runny nose and an aching throat?  Last night’s 7k run was well worth it. It had the makings of a perfect run, or at least it would be up there on top of my list of favorites.

Now let me just go get my Vitamin C + zinc and drink a dose of Berocca.

  2. What makes my engine run wild is when i run in the rain. Running in the rain is like “ CLEANSING OF THE SOUL”. I love it and im glad you and Miguel enjoyed it. I like it when the street light reflects on the wet pavement & the silence of the night but most of all the excuse of not taking a shower after your run cause you did it will running anyway :-) .

  3. Sarap! I love doing that too! It reminds of the times we used to (contrary to our parents advice) play in the rain, and soak up in the gutter…

  4. I love running in the rain too! It’s the best excuse to drink your nth cup of coffee for the day. Hmm, parang Nescafe ad… haha. Keep on runnin’!

  5. A good rain run is always good. By the way I found that stuffing wet shoes with newspaper makes them dry faster and they don’t smell. The paper draws out the moisture from the fabrics. Thought I’d share that tidbit but you may already know it.

  9. Running – or any sport – is good quality time with your significant other. I run with my wife too, and I’ve got her hooked on running now, hehe. 5K for now, for her. She’ll be my photographer in Singapore this December (just like your hubby?).

You drink Berocca too? Same here – breakfast of champions (or more for crazy runners like us, haha).

And yes, there is something soothing or calming when running in the rain – no thunderstorms though!

  10. Looks like a great cinematic shot for a movie, hehehe. More than the fun of running in the rain, it’s the time that you have together that makes it more special. For me, nothing beats a great romantic moment with your hubby or wife.

  18. So I just had my own “rain run” I thought of you, hubby and your post while I was out there.

I’m training for a race at the end of November, it’s 28.4 miles, not sure what that is in kilometers – x 1.6. It’s very hilly and trail with lots of technical sections. I caught the bus there this morning and it rained from the first step to the last, all 7 hours of it! It was muddy, windy and very, very wet. So much fun. After the run I had to apologize profusely to the girl in the cafe who had to take my soaked money.
