Runner’s Breakfast at Paul Calvin’s Deli

At the Forbes Town Center, just a few minutes drive (or run) from NBC Tent where races are commonly held, lies a quaint, little deli called PAUL CALVIN’S DELI.

Partly-owned by a runner, this deli is open early in the morning after a race to serve the post-race requirements of crazy, hungry runners. They serve the RUNNER’S BREAKFAST which for P230 a head is definitely a wiser, healthier alternative to fastfood restaurants around the area. Drop by the place after Condura!

  1. Sounds great! would they have nutritional information indicated on the on the menu as well (i.e. carbs, sat & trans fat, sodium) per serving?

  4. I love your website! I also like the way you write about running and how passionate you are about it! I do hope to see you at the race. This is my first 21K run ever for the Condura Run and I hope to join at least seven runs for this year, as that’s the realistic thing I could work around my work schedule. [Sigh]. Anyway, more power to you!

  5. I’m just wondering… do you eat before a run? Or just drink lots of fluids and eat after the run? I really have no idea what’s the best preparation with regards to that (I’m a newbie, the Condura Run yesterday was only my 4th 5K run).

  6. hi,

    that’s a very good question… here’s what i normally do on race day….
1.)2hours before the race, i eat light meal(bread, coffee or chocolate drink).reason: to give time for food to settle down in the stomach.

2.)30 min before the race, i take energy gel(powergel, hammer, crank gel, etc) and a half filled glass of water (not ice cold) reason:to boost up energy. energy gels are easily absorbed by the stomach. downside: can upset stomach if you don’t practice eating gel during training sessions.

3.) after the run (within 30min window only) , i treat myself for a heavy breakfast. reason: 30 min window of opportunity to eat anything without gaining weight….body absorbs anything for repair of tissues.

4.)fluid intake after the run is okey…just remember,if you feel you are thirsty it means you are dehydrated already…this is a serious matter.
during the race or in training i sip fluids every 10min( on a hot day) or every 15 min. (on a cool day)… there is minimum requirement on fluid intake per hour while while training.

    just my two cents sharing…
