FAQ:

1. Does the entire team need to show up for registration?

No. One team member, not necessarily the Alumni or Participant, can register for everyone.

2. I don’t know any TBR Dream Alumni or Participant? Can I still join?

Sorry but we require one teammate to be a TBR Dream Alumni or Participant.  You may visit our TBR DM Facebook page and meet other alumni there who are looking for teammates.

3. Can I run ahead of my teammates?

No. The entire team must run as one. Teams that do not run or cross the finish line together will be disqualified.

4. What do I need to bring on race day?

Um, aside from your 2 teammates, your waivers.  In your race kit, we have included two waivers per person. Each runner must submit both either during registration or on race day.

Product Review: Sensacare Thermo-Shoes

Friday, 26 October 2012  |  Gear + Gadgets

For months now, I’ve been using the Sensacare Universal Pack regularly for icing my ice or knees when I feel the need. Turns out, they have another product especially for the foot: Sensacare Thermo-Shoes.

Sensacare Thermo-Shoes provide hot or cold therapy to temporarily ease discomfort or pain on the foot.  The Thermo-Shoes look like real shoes (hence the name!) and are completely reusable.

– Sensacare Thermo-Shoes P3,499-

The Thermo shoes have removable inserts made of 100% natural ingredients such as chamomile, cinnamon, lemongrass, peppermint, rosemary, spearmint, white willow which give out a wonderful aroma while using.  (I can’t get enough of it!) All you have to do is remove the inserts from the shoe by unzipping the bottom, heat or freeze the herbal packs and flexible soles, slip them back into their compartments in the shoe and, voila, you’ve got yourself convenient and mess-free hot or cold therapy packs or, in this case, shoes.

– Unzip the bottom compartment to pull out the herbal packs and flexible soles –

IMG_1544
– Heat these in the microwave for 40 seconds or seal in a plastic bag and throw in the freezer for 1 to 2 hours before using –

IMG_1545
– Zip them back into the shoe –

IMG_1548
– Tada! The coolest (or hottest) therapy packs ever –

The Thermo-Shoes are oh-so comfortable to wear. I use them while watching TV or even working after a long run, half or full marathon, or anytime I feel some discomfort in my feet. The aroma from the herbal packs add a sense of calmness in the air. My feet and I are happy campers when we’re wearing them!

As I’ve noted in my past review of Sensacare products, my only concern is that the herbal packs don’t get as cold as ice. The product is a bit pricey too at P3,499. Still, for those with bottomless pockets, this would be a nifty product to have. Take it from me…and Li’l Miss Bull Runner who found another use for it…

The Case of the Lost Kayanos

Thursday, 25 October 2012  |  Bullish Insights

My 11-year-old TBR Jr. came home from school two weeks ago with good news. They had a test in PE that day and he and his classmates were made to run laps around the field. Everyone completed six laps. He was the only one who ran seven.

I could hardly contain my joy! I exclaimed: Wow, you’re such a fast runner!

He stared back at me blankly and said: It wasn’t about speed, Mama. It was about endurance.

Whoops, my bad.  What was I thinking?!

The following day, TBR Jr. arrived home with even better news. During PE, they were made to run sprints. He came first in the entire class!

This time, I was so overwhelmed with excitement that I took his hand and practically rushed out the door to the nearest running store. His Mizuno shoes were due for replacement anyway and I felt this was the perfect time to replace them.

At Runnr, we stood in front of all the colorful shoes lined up on the shelves. I whispered: Choose any shoe you like. It’s your reward.

Out of all the brands and models, The Bull Runner’s son picked only one shoe: Asics Gel Kayano. (Yes, he’s got taste!)   Runnr didn’t have his size, but I do know the good ol’ people at Asics so I managed to buy a pair directly from the warehouse by day’s end.

I took out the Kayanos from the box, presented it to my son, and went on and on about what a great pair of shoes it was.  How it was one of the best running shoes.  How a lot of runners pined for that shoe and here he was fortunate enough to have it.  How he should maximize it and start running more.  He listened intently.

The following day, he packed the shoes in his bag for PE.  He used his brand spankin’ new Kayanos during class for the first time.  But…oh boy, here we go…when he got home from school, it was nowhere to be found. He had accidentally left it in the waiting area.

The Kayanos have not made their presence felt since their disappearance last week (neither has the guy who probably took it! Rawr!)  I’ve been praying the shoes pop up at the Lost and Found, but all hope is dwindling.  It seems like I’ll have to buy him another pair soon (unless I want my son to squeeze his feet into his tight Mizuno’s and have all his toenails die like mine.)  Sigh.

As for my TBR Jr., we had to teach him about responsibility and we found a way for him to make up for the loss.  A portion of the cost will be taken out of his savings and he has to shine everyone’s shoe until the end of the year.

Just between you and me though, if he comes home next week and tells me he came in first in a race among classmates, I just may do cartwheels and forget about those lost Kayanos!

Nike We Run 2012

PRESS RELEASE:

PHILIPPINES, OCTOBER 2012 – Nike’s We Run race returns to Manila for a second year, to inspire, motivate and connect runners around the world. On December 2, 2012, Filipino runners will be part of the global We Run race movement, which will see a total of 395,500 runners from 34 cities participating—establishing a new global community of runners through Nike’s most connected race series using the innovative Nike+ technology. The We Run race series kicked off on September 1 in Prague, Czech Republic, and will conclude on December 15 in Rio de Janiero, Brazil.

Nike’s We Run Manila 10K race will energize the streets of Pasay City with the 13,000 high-octane runners expected to make tracks all over the SM Mall of Asia’s grounds. Set against the remarkable view of Manila Bay, the initial stretch of the race will let runners pass through the commercialized area of the Mall of Asia with the SMX Convention Center and the latest icon of the area, the eye-shaped SM Bay City Arena. Runners are set to leave urban commercial scenery and head towards the fields along Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard. Closing in on the halfway point of the race, runners will then pass the upcoming Belle Casino, a gold complex glistening in the morning sun. As they take a turn on Pacific Avenue and race past the same landmarks, runners will come upon the iconic ferris-wheel along Seaside Boulevard that marks the final kilometer to the finish line. The panoramic run would not be complete without an engaging en route entertainment featuring some of Manila’s top musical acts.

Meeting the runners at the finish line is the Race Village that will offer an array of services. Runners can expect to be pampered with massage booths and get recharged at any of the refreshment stalls while being entertained by the energetic musical line-up.

“Nike’s We Run race is the celebration of running across the world, the culmination of every runner’s dedication and commitment to train harder, defy expectations and push their bodies’ limits. Nike aims to revolutionize the running experience, by allowing runners to inspire, motivate and connect with other runners globally through the Nike+ Technology”, shared Sanjay Gangopadhyay, Marketing Director of Nike South East Asia. “With the second edition of the We Run race in Manila, Nike envisions Filipinos, the youth in particular, to further move the local running scene forward by leading the active lifestyle movement.”

This year, Nike is taking inspiration to a new level as runners will be able to follow two of Philippines most popular lifestyle bloggers, Robbie Becroft of robbieoffduty.com and Lissa Kahayon of lissakahayon.com who will be embarking on their first We Run race. Follow their We Run journey as they take on the challenge of preparing for Nike’s We Run MNL 10K race, blogging at each step of the journey, and witness how Nike elevates their everyday running experience with the various product offerings including the Nike+ ecosystem.

To get race-ready, Nike will organize four training sessions focusing on proper running techniques and tips. Runners will also be able to test out the Nike+ Running app (available on iOS and Android), and try out the season’s latest running products. These clinics will be led by podiatrists and Nike Training Club instructors to further educate individuals on how they can reach their potential as runners.
