After the success of the first Discover Duathlon clinic (read about how much fun—and suffering—we had HERE), Newton is holding another duathlon clinic on July 18, 2012 at SM Mall of Asia. I hear they’re going to make it even more fun with a “disco” theme to the event!

Mizuno launches Mizuno Run Academy in collaboration with Patrick Joson of the Jump Start movement. They are taking the Mizuno Run Club step further by coming up with this running school that teaches science-based running. More than a running clinic, the Mizuno Run Academy is something that would entail a higher level of commitment from the participant. They are offering a limited number of slots so quality education can be delivered. Registration is ongoing for the first module. Coach Patrick will be teaching the POSE and Maffetone method.

Tough Workout at Newton & Runnr’s Duathlon Clinic

Friday, 11 May 2012  |  Running + Triathlon

Last night, I joined the Newton & Runner Duathlon Clinic at Bonifacio High Street.  The event encouraged runners to start biking as a cross training option and to subsequently start joining duathlons as a new challenge.

The clinic started with a talk on duathlons by my triathlon coach, Andy Leuterio, a brief talk on bikes by owner of Dan’s Bike Shop and Specialized distributor, Joey Ramirez, and, lastly, an introduction to bike fitting by Edmund Mangaser of All Terra.

After the informative talks, the workout began. It was a—get this—bike-run-bike-run-bike session. Phew!  It was tough. (Big mistake for running an 8k tempo that morning.)

There was a lot of grunting and groaning from all 30 participants, including myself. A wonderfully intense workout that left me soaked in sweat yet happy.

Off to the Clinic

Clinic2

I caught a nasty bug last night that’s draining all the energy out of me. The throat is scratchy and I’m sneezing every 15 seconds.

Earlier this morning, I tried my best to proceed with work: finalize TBR Magazine – October issue, and thankfully, I did. (Wait for my post about it!) But, there are still meetings to attend, and shopping to do (for the Li’l Miss Bull Runner who turns 5 tomorrow!)

Plan is to finish all these and head to the clinic tonight. No, not a doctor’s clinic, but a running clinic! Hah!

For the past two weeks, I’ve been regularly attending the Nike Training Clinic at Ultra on Tuesdays and the Mizuno Run Club at Bonifacio High Street on Thursdays. I don’t join the training session as I have my own program to follow, but I think being around runners and coaches gives me the motivation to accomplish my job for the day. Of course, great conversation with running friends makes the experience less dull, too.

Methinks that an 11k tempo run at 5:40 pace tonight may just be the thing to scare the virus away. Now, if that doesn’t work, you’ll hear from me tomorrow—after I visit a real doctor’s clinic!
