Win a Nike+ SportBand – TBR “Race” Details

Monday, 11 August 2008  |  News + Promos

TBRrace

TBR is all set to launch the TBR “Race” series, wherein the winner of each race will be awarded with his/her very own Nike+ SportBand (retail price of P3,195).

 Nike_Plus_SportBand

The races will not be actual races (uhm, I don’t have the budget for that), but they will be held on this blog.  You must be fit and fast (actually, only your fingers have to be in tip-top shape) to compete in these races.  Only the top 20 commenters will be eligible to win the prizes.

[ RACE DETAILS ]

  1. TBR will post a fill-in-the-blank sentence (Ex.: My name is _______.)
  2. Runners will fill in the blank and post it in the comments section below (Ex. My name is The Bull Runner.)
  3. The first 20 runners to post their answers will be eligible to win the raffle for the Nike+ SportBand and discount coupons.
  4. TBR’s favorite answer (for its humor, creativity, or wit) will receive 4 additional raffle entries regardless of its place in the race.  In other words, that commenter, even if he/she didn’t make it to the Top 20, will automatically be included in the race raffle and gain 4 additional entries.
  5. Race participants may only submit one answer per race.  Runner who submits more than once in one race will automatically be disqualified.  No cheaters allowed here.
  6. Race participants may only win once.
  7. Raffle will be done under the supervision of a TBR Representative, specifically my little Bull Runners.
  8. Winners must claim their prizes.  I will not deliver them to you.  Duh.
  9. Runners who join the TBR race must have real and serious intentions of participating in the Nike+ Human Race on 08.31.08 and currently do not have the Nike+ Kit or SportBand.  If you don’t plan to join the Nike+ Human Race, please step aside and give other runners a chance.
  10. TBR reserves the right to change race rules anytime during the course of these races.

[ RACE SCHEDULE ]

Exact time and date of TBR races will NOT be announced.  I may post more than one race in a day.  Or none at all in 2 days.  I may wake up at 5 a.m.—just like in a real race—to fire the gun and see all participants run off towards the finish.

Here are the only details I’ll give:

Race No. 1: 1 winner of a Nike+ SportBand

Race No. 2: 1 winner of a Nike+ SportBand

Race No. 3: 1 winner of a Nike+ SportBand

Race No. 4: 1 winner of a Nike+ SportBand

Race No. 5: 1 winner of a Nike+ SportBand

Race No. 6: 10 winners of 20% discount coupon for Nike+ SportBand

I’ll be posting the 1st race soon.  Lace up your virtual shoes and get ready!

Nike Human Race

First the BAD NEWS: Manila wasn’t chosen as one of the 25 cities where the Nike Human Race would be held. The lucky 25 are:

  1. Austin
  2. Bogotá
  3. Buenos Aires
  4. Caracas
  5. Chicago
  6. Istanbul
  7. London
  8. Los Angeles
  9. Lima
  10. Madrid
  11. Melbourne
  12. Mexico City
  13. Munich
  14. New York
  15. Paris
  16. Quito
  17. Rome
  18. São Paulo
  19. Seoul
  20. Shanghai
  21. Singapore
  22. Taipei
  23. Tokyo
  24. Warsaw
  25. Vancouver

But, the GOOD NEWS for us Pinoys is this: we can still join the Nike Human Race without booking a flight to nos. 1 to 25 above.  One can join the race by joining VIRTUALLY.

All you have to do is track your run with a Nike+ Sport Kit or Nike+ Sport Band (yes, you can only join the Nike+ Virtual Race if you have the Nike+ kit or band) then sync your run to nikeplus.com.ph. You can run anywhere at any time of the day starting 12:00am until 11:59pm on August 31.  Just run a total of 10k throughout the day to contribute to the global mileage on August 31, 2008.

Now even BETTER NEWS for Nike+ members: A little birdie told me (okay, it’s Coach Rio) that Nike Philippines is organizing a local Nike+ Virtual Race to be held on the same day, 08.31.08, to gather all Nike+ members to run together instead of having to run alone. Coach Rio emphasizes it will NOT be an official race, hence registration is free. However, it will definitely feel like one with prizes for top placers, race bibs, water stations, raffle prizes (drool drool), and more. They’re still deciding on the course: Bonifacio High Street or U.P.  Details to follow.

And, more GOOD NEWS…or perhaps the BEST NEWS for you guys: I will be giving away 5 new Nike+ Sport Bands (retail price of P3,295) in the days leading up to the race on August 31.  I’m still brainstorming how to give these out to deserving runners but let me warn you: it will not be easy.  More on this in future posts.

MORE INFO ON THE NIKE HUMAN RACE:

Nike celebrates runners and their sport while uniting athletes all over the globe through the world’s largest running event. On 08.31.08, join a million runners worldwide for a 10k event like no other at the Nike+ Human Race. By combining Nike’s digital running world with the physical, the Nike+ Human Race is open to anyone, anywhere.

Besides running the Nike+ Human Race physically in any of the 25 host cities, participants can choose to take part in the virtual race. This means you can run anywhere at any time of the day starting 12:00am until 11:59pm on August 31, track your run with a Nike+ Sport Kit or Nike+ Sport Band, then sync your run to nikeplus.com.ph. Just run a total of 10k throughout the day to contribute to the global mileage on August 31, 2008.

Furthermore, Vote With Your Feet (VWYF) allows all virtual runners to log their miles from the day they register themselves on the website. Once the participant signs up for the virtual race, he can choose one of the three global charities to donate to. The cumulative miles run for the individual charities will result in what the allocation of Nike’s contribution will be among the three charities September 1, 2008.

VIRTUAL RACE FAQs

Why did Nike decide to organize this event?
Simply put, Nike is celebrating runners and their sport. This is going to be the World’s Largest Running Event and provide a global connection point for every athlete. By using tools that Nike created like Nike+ and the Nike+ SportBand, people can now participate from anywhere: a country road, an urban sidewalk or at one of the 25 designated Nike+ Human Race cities.

If I’m not running in a Nike+ Human Race city, can I still join the Human Race?
Anyone that registers for the Nike+ Human Race can participate. If you’re not running at the host city, you can participate through the virtual race. By registering for the race at nikeplus.com.ph, runners can simply run from their home, track their run with Nike+ iPod or Nike+ SportBand, then log their miles and contribute to the global mileage occurring simultaneously on 08.31.08.

How can I sign up for the virtual race?

Participants merely have to register for it here to join the virtual race with Nike+

Step 1: Ensure that you have a Nike+ SportKit or Nike+ SportBand to track your miles. Both can be purchased from any Nike retail outlets.

Step 2: Select to join the race with Nike+

Step 3: Train for race day with Nike+

Step 4: Race and sync your 10k run on 31.8.2008

What is the difference between the physical and virtual race?

Difference 1: The physical race requires you to be present at any of the 25 cities worldwide on 31st August 2008, closest to the Philippines is in Singapore. The virtual race on the other hand requires you to run anywhere, anytime, before 11:59pm on August 31, 2008.

Difference 2: The physical race requires a registration fee, depending on your respective category and city. The virtual race requires no entry fee.

Difference 3: The physical race participants will run with a ChampionChip device whereas all virtual runners simply need to log their miles with a Nike+ SportKit or Nike+ SportBand.

If I signed up for the virtual race, do I have to complete the 10KM?

Yes. You have to run a 10K or more on August 31 for you to be count in the Human Race. You can run in blocks, like 5KM/5KM or 2KM/3KM/5KM, as long as your total is at least 10K.

What benefits do I stand to enjoy as a virtual race participant?

Virtual race participants get to enjoy:

A Nike+ Finisher Bracelet for the first 250 Filipino participants to log their 10km on to www.nikeplus.com.ph by 11:59pm at August 31, 2008.

15% off* on purchase of a Nike+ SportBand or Nike+ Kit. (I may be giving out 10 discount coupons I’ll confirm this later.)

*At selected Nike retail stores only. Offer is valid until August 30, 2008.

How do I contribute to charity by running the virtual race?

Once you join the race as a Nike+ participant, all the distance loaded via Nike+ prior to and on the race day will be tracked. Vote With Your Feet (VWYF) allows all virtual runners to log their miles from the day they register themselves on the website. Once the participant signs up for the virtual race, he can choose one of the three global charities to donate to. The cumulative miles run for the individual charities will result in what the apportionment of Nike’s contribution will be amongst the three charities.

What if I would like to donate to charity?

Virtual racers can also make direct money donations to charities using the Nike+ Pledge Tool.

Traitors In The Team

Tuesday, 18 September 2007  |  Gear + Gadgets

Not too long ago they were my best running buddies. I could depend on one as I would a Coach; he would tell me if I was running too fast or too slow or if I should run a little farther or stop for the day. The other friend would make long runs feel shorter by keeping me entertained all throughout the run. The three of us were a team. We were inseparable.

Until one day, they both betrayed me. It was during the Run To Bring Hope that they stabbed me in the back, took my heart and stomped on it till I was numb, and left with no explanation nor apologies for their cruel actions. Why did they do this to me? I stood at the end of the finish line with a new PR feeling victorious yet alone.

Who were these running buddies?

My ipod Nano and Nike+ Sports Kit. Er, who did you think?

Some of you know the story. After running my best 10 km race ever during the Run To Bring Hope, I pressed on the Nano to end the workout only to realize it had hung on me. Worse, when it finally shut off 30 minutes later, I learned that it did not record the entire run. The jerk. I cursed it for over a week. He retaliated by hanging three more times; each time when I ran over 10 km. Crazy fart. So, I exiled the Nano and his partner in crime, the Nike+ Sports Kit, to Power Mac in Greenbelt almost a month ago. Dumb fools. (Can you tell I was pretty calm about all this?)

A couple of weeks later, I called Power Mac and asked how my ex-buddies were faring. The technician said they did not hang on him. The evil hypocrites, I thought. I informed him that they only show their bad side when you take them out for a 10 km run. Caught unaware the technician replied “Er, maam, we uhm don’t have running shoes so uhm since we noted that there is an intermittent hanging while browsing your ipod and connection problems with the sports kit, we will replace both items.”

Woohoo! Just what I had hoped for! Good riddance to those two traitors!

Last Monday, I purchased new flowers, cleaned our home, and bought a cake to welcome my new running buddies. (Okay, I’m exaggerating, but I did do my best to make them feel welcome by washing the little pouch they would be living in.) It was a bit difficult for me in the beginning as seeing these two brought back all the hurt from the ex-friends who looked identical to them, but after a few minutes, I knew these were new and improved running buddies.

So far, so good. I’ve run thrice with my new ipod and sports kit and I hope this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship—no skipping nor hanging please!

New Ipod and Sports Kit

To Power Mac Greenbelt, I commend you for the excellent service provided by your personnel from the receiving station to the technician to the SMS message informing me of my items being ready for pick up. Keep up the great work!

Sales, Sales, More Sales!

Get out and run towards your nearest sports outlet. Almost all the major brands are on sale now. Just make sure you’ve got moolah in your pockets!

MIZUNO

Paseo de Magallanes BMG building Roof Deck
August 28 to 31, 2007
Running Shoes go for P995 to P3,500

With the entire family in tow, I went to Mizuno on the very first day of its VIP sale. I only had one thing in mind: Mizuno Wave Creation 8. Were they going to put it on sale? I doubted it. But, optimistic ol’ me had high hopes that one size 9 pair of the said shoe would get mixed with the old stocks on sale and would instantly fall on my lap like manna from heaven. I sat there for minutes—alongside my two children as my hubby purchased new golf shoes and two gloves—waiting for those shoes to descend from the sky. Nope. Nada. No shoe.

God helps those who helps themselves. So, I tell hubby that I must “work” for the shoe. By this I meant that I had to travel one floor down via elevator towards Mizuno’s retail store in the same building. The elevator doors opened like heaven’s pearly white gates. Had I died and gone to running shoe heaven? There lay my Mizuno Wave Creation 8 in all its beauty (well, its price tag was shining brightly too!) I tried all three colors (green for women and black/red and orange for men) but I ended up liking the women’s the most. Did I buy it? Not yet. But I know it shall be mine. Oh la la la.

NIKE

Nationwide sale from August 24 to Sept 14, 2007

Nike

No tackling for me at Nike Women, Greenbelt 3…although grappling over a sports bra with another woman (or her boyfriend) sounds like a great workout. After turning in my dying Nano and Nike+ kit for repair in Power Mac, I skipped on over to Nike while my good hubby distracted the kids at Powerbooks. When the kids are away, Mommy can shop in peace so I happily left the place with a nice top for only P870. Saved myself a cool 20%. Yeah.

ADIDAS

Yup, they have a sale too, but I have yet to confirm if it’s open to the public. I shall post about this once I get the go signal from them. If not, I’ll just tell you about the new outfits I get from there. Haha.
