Analyze This (RunPix)

Talk about high-tech race analysis. Normally, when I see numbers and charts, I run towards the opposite direction (so unlike DATC) but, in this case, I enjoyed learning how I fared vs. competition in the Singapore Half Marathon.  Perhaps my favorite piece of info below is this: “You were ahead of about 83% of male finishers.”  Wooah, how cool is that?

I wonder when we’ll ever have technology like this in the Philippines?

  1. Hi Jaymie. Congratulations on the Singapore Half. Also, I’m very impressed with the way the Singapore organizers came up with the info.

Definitely, it’s still fairly new in the U.S. as well. The Bay To Breakers came up with something a little similar this year. However, it wasn’t quite as detailed but any runner with a chip knew their chip time within five minutes after finishing. That was impressive.

    Congratulations again and take care.

Hi Wayne. Thanks! The info was provided by RunPix which, based on its site, seems to be NZ-based. It was great that Singapore organizers obtained their services.

  2. Tow things:

You should win a prize for being 1234th, wow you cant get into that position even if you try…

Secondly, in the lower right corner indicates that you start to far behind in the pack as well maybe because you are to generous… it is either that or other runners are to optimistic but then again so many I think you should start a bit more to the front of the pack.

    Congrats once again.

Hahaha, yeah 1234! Nice but #1 would be a lot better :)

Jun and I learned another lesson there. In hindsight, we think that we should have chosen to start at the very front or at the very end. It was so crowded in the middle that we lost a lot of time and spent a lot of energy overtaking. Since the chip was used, we could’ve stayed in the back where there was less traffic. Or ran in front but maintained a good enough pace that the rest of the runners would overtake us.

  3. NIce way of getting results in a race. At least you learn how you fare from the other runners. And you can push yourself in the next race that you’ll be in… And good thing you “Chicked” the other male runners there! :D

    Yup, great info here! :)

  4. That was really amazing, Jaymie. I was fascinated when I first saw the stats from Mesh’s post. The number of people you passed is also shown, motivating. Congrats again.

Yes, nice to know I overtook more runners than those who passed by me. hahaha

  6. You can also compute all that data manually, except the overtaking part from midway to finish since you need the split-times to do that :-)

I have a business idea for you! Create the excel template and sell it to Coach Rio! :)

  7. TBR,

you are giving a new assignment to coach rio for future races in manila :)

Oh, he was raving about this already on our way back from Singapore. I’m sure he dreams of implementing something like this in his races. Time will come…

  9. We lined up 1.5 hours to get our race bibs. buti ka pa! Tiffin was on shopping mode as well. Napagod ako.

    Regards Mark & Tiffin

Wow…1.5 hours. I guess everyone was eager to claim the race packs. I heard about Tiffin’s new shoes. Kwento nalang if it works for her :)

  10. I’ll try to figure it out later in excel…I’ll swap it na lang with rio, in exchange for training until I get to a sub-4 marathon. Bwahahaha!

Good idea. Your template may be worth millions so lifetime training yan!

  12. Wow Jaymie, galing… talong talo mo yung 83% ng mga guys. If only we had a timing chip like the Singapore marathon.

Hopefully an organizer picks this up soon. Ehem ehem :)
