HOW CAN I WIN?

  1. Inspired by Magic 89.9′s lamest answers contest, I would like to hear your lamest, silliest, funniest answers to this question: WHY DO YOU NEED A MASSAGE NOW?  (Of course, it would be better if you could tie it in to running.) Example: Because I can’t afford a massage anymore after I purchased my first running shoe.
  2. Submit your answer as a comment on this post.
  3. You may submit several posts with DIFFERENT answers, but you may only win 1 massage coupon.
  4. TBR and family will choose the 20 lamest and funniest answers.
  5. Day One contest closes on Monday, May 4, 2009 at 12:00 noon.
  6. Winners will be published on this blog and will be advised how to claim their prizes.

Good luck!

  4. I need a massage because as I struggled to finish my last 21 K race ( i.e. nearly gave up, thought ‘what the heck am I doing this for?’, actually exclaimed ‘am i there yet?’ through my short breaths and must have gone through the whole crisis management cycle in my head – denial, anger, admission, compromise 3x) the ONE thing…ONE THING…that got me to the finish line was the thought of a massage to reward myself for finishing. Well, it’s been several WEEKS…and I still haven’t gotten my massage! … no time, couldn’t figure out where, other silly reasons for putting it off. Winning THIS will surely set me straight – and make me finally feel the victory of my run!

  12. Entry number 2::

    I need a massage right now because peer-reviewed medical research has shown that the benefits of massage include pain relief, reduced trait anxiety and depression, and temporarily reduced blood pressure, heart rate, and state anxiety. Theories behind what massage might do include blocking nociception (gate control theory), activating the parasympathetic nervous system which may stimulate the release of endorphins and serotonin, preventing fibrosis or scar tissue, increasing the flow of lymph, and improving sleep but such effects are yet to be supported by well designed clinical studies. Massage is hindered from reaching the gold standard of scientific research which includes placebo-controlled and double blind clinical trials. Developing a “sham” manual therapy for massage would be difficult since even light touch massage could not be assumed to be completely devoid of effects on the subject. It would also be difficult to find a subject that would not notice that they were getting less of a massage and it would be impossible to blind the therapist. Massage can employ randomized controlled trials which are published in peer reviewed medical journals. This type of study could increase the credibility of the profession because it displays that purported therapeutic effects are reproducible. I need all of those.

  13. I need a nice massage ONLY at Cocoon Spa and Salon because the last time my neighbor gave me a massage, it scares the hell out of me. Here’s our conversation:

    Neighbor Therapist: Is the pressure okay?
    Me: How will I know if it’s not “okay”?
    Neighbor Therapist: If you see dead relatives beckoning you toward a bright light, that would be one clue.
    Me: (whispering to my self) oh god help me..

  31. I went for a massage today (NOT at Cocoon) to ease my runner’s aches and pains, and by the end of the massage I was in so much MORE pain then when I started, I was thinking, “man, I’m going to need a massage to relax my muscles after this massage!” And then I saw your contest. Seems like fate!

    note: she doesn’t want to be called massuest! :)
