Condura Marathon: 4 Year History in TBR Pictures. Plus: Win Free Condura Skyway Marathon Race Kits!

With all systems go for the 5th Condura Skyway Marathon this coming Sunday, I thought it would be fun to reminisce about the Condura Marathon as seen through my Bull’s eye going all the way back to 2008 before they had 42k or set foot on the Skyway. (Man, I feel so ancient!)

2008: CONDURA RUN FOR TUBATAHA REEF

Race start at BGC was small and intimate. First time we had seen floodlights light up a race start that way and oooh it seemed so high tech!

2009: Condura Skyway Run for the Whale Shark

Condura was the first race to ever have people running on the Skyway.  It was surreal for most of us runners to finally do this!

2010: Condura Run for Dolphins

Condura finally went into the marathon! Plus, it was on the Skyway again! How could I resist Ton Concepcion’s personal invite to run the 42k even if I had run 42k in QCIM in October and Singapore Marathon in December 2011. Three weeks after Condura, I ran Hong Kong 42k too. It was an awesome five months of marathoning, but I wouldn’t recommend it and I don’t think I would do it again!

Ran the Skyway with my bestest running buddy Annie who had come home for a brief trip from Singapore where she was based. She had left for Singapore the year before and when she did I was crying buckets worried that running would never be as fun (or fast) without her.

2011: Condura Skyway Marathon – Run for the Dolphins

Condura had raised the bar for races giving local runners a world-class race that was at par with other international races.

13,000 runners participated in the event. Click HERE to read my race report.

That’s me running 21k without training.  Whoa boy, I think history will repeat itself in this Sunday’s race.  Gulp.

  1. My favorite Condura race was Condura Run for the dolphins because that was my very first Condura race and I was able to run in the Skyway for the first time. This Sunday, I’m looking forward to a very well-organized race as always :)

  2. This will be my first time to run at Condura Skyway Marathon, and if i’ll be lucky, I’ll be able to run with my friends (which like me are a bit overweight) and share the day and run full of fun, and a hefty breakfast after. :)

    • i forgot to indicate the distance, sorry. :( if it is still possible and if I’m not yet disqualified I’ll pick the 16K, all my groupies will run the 21K and 42K, it will be the closest distance to them.

  3. I ran the 21K during the 2011 edition of the Condura Skyway Marathon and it was memorable because even though I suffered adversity with hyponatremia I still managed to complete the race. Running truly makes you tough, physically and mentally.

  8. My favorite race was the 2009 edition, rumor the whale sharks. Two things that made this standout, i am a diver and seeing this massive fish underwater is a sight to behold, second reason is i got the first edition of the bullrunner.

  12. I am Albert Mikko A. Hizon and I would like to join the 10k marathon.

    This Sunday’s race will be my first ever condura skyway marathon. I’ve only started running last December after five years of not being fit (after being a HS basketball varsity, college life ended up being party life!). Really looking forward to one of the best (second only to TBR Dream Marathon :) ) running events. Most especially, being at the top of my fitness again! Run for the mangroves!

  15. My favorite and only Condura race I’ve joined is last year’s Condura Skyway Marathon Run for the Dolphins..This is very significant to me because this is the first 10k race that I’ve run and I did it on the Skyway, no less..

  16. My favorite Condura Race was the 2011 Run for the dolphins. It was my first 21-km race and protection of wildlife, particularly dolphins, is close to my heart.

    I look forward to running the 2012 edition of the Condura run because a mangrove protection program was one of my project proposals in a degree project. There is very limited public awareness about the importance of mangrove ecosystems.

  17. Last year’s Condura Run for the dolphins was my very first ‘public’ run (in preparation for TBR Dream). All firsts could either make you or break you, right? Good thing I joined Condura ‘coz it made me love joining fun runs. I wish I could run the 16K (for free) this year. :)

  20. Hi, Jaymie! Condura in general is my favorite race because the first time I joined Condura (21k) in 2009, I had my PR that still stands today. Then, for the next two Condura races (2010 and 2011), ran 42k and both time had a sub-4, which, oddly enough, only happens in Condura! Yep, if I run a 42k in another event, like Milo or abroad, I never hit that sub-4. There must be something in Condura that blesses me with a great marathon time hehe. Which is why it shall always be my favorite event, and shall always have a special place in my heart.

  26. My favotite condura race is the 2009 condura run for the whale shark, because back then the registration fee is still affordable, But for now can’t afford it anymore it’s to expensive for me and i have a family to feed.

    But i still dreaming to running it because the route is the famous skyway.

  34. My favorite was 2008′s Condura Run for Tubataha Reef because I was just starting to run at that time and it was so overwhelming to actually finish a 10km race! It definitely ignited my love for running and ever since that race, I’ve gone out and done longer distances, including an ultramarathon last Sept 2011! :) – Corinne Wenceslao, 16km.

  38. i’ll go for the 2008 condura run for the tubbataha reef because i’ts my firts and last time to run a 10k because i got very busy for raising my kids, but eventhough i still exercise regularly.

  47. My fave Condura Run was in 2010 which is my 1st 10k, alone. I love running in Condura because I know I am helping the nature and at the same time enjoying the only sport i know and have. :)

    My favorite Condura race was in 2010 when I came late by about 5 minutes due to the heavy traffic while parking. But still, I was able to catch up with my pace group and lo and behold, had my best 21km PR (at that time).

    As the 21km slots have closed on me, I’d really like to wi one of the 16km slots you have. It’s part of my prep for TBR2012 Dream Marathon.

  81. This Sunday will be my first Condura Marathon Race.

    I will run this race to help the environmental cause of mangrove preservation and to support my teammates (from PEx Running Club) doing their first 10k and 21k races.

    10k race kit if chosen. :)

  82. Sana manalo ako ng Free 10-K race kit. Joined this running group in Makati every Tuesday last January of 2011 at awa ng Diyos tuloy pa din kami ng office mates ko. Panahon nang sumali sa una kong 10K at mukang matinding challenge itong Sky way run ng Condura.

  84. I’m looking forward to running my 1st Condura race because it aims to preserve the Mangroves which filters particles from the air, serve as part of the food chain of plant eaters as well as provide shelter for fishes and insects.

  88. My favorite Condura race was last year’s Run for Dolphins. Not only for its good cause but to run with my husband in the 10k category on skyway was a very memorable one though he left me on kilometer 8 because of call of nature :)

  90. Hi Jaymie…I jsut want to ask if ok lang na pag ang wave mo is wave D, ok lang ba Tumakbo sa Wave A? kasi takbo kasi ako sa sunday sa condura. And lastly, i registered already but i have not receive a confiramation from bazusport sa email which i usually received if i register in a runrio organized event..thnks..sorry la ako mapagtanungan eh :-) more power!

  91. I can no longer join the contest because, I have already signed up way before you posted this. Hahahaha!

    I remember February 12, 2009 when my friends and I left of now-defunct Embassy Superclub after a wild Valentine’s Day partying. My buddy who was driving was complaining about the bad traffic at 6am and we had no idea that there was an ongoing marathon. We had no choice but to park the car elsewhere and watch a see of inspired people running.

    Condura 2009 became an eye opener for me. I cut my vices gradually. In late 2009, I started running short distances.

    I ran my first 10K at last year’s Condura Run for the Dolphins. That made me realise that I can run longer than 10k. Now, I’ll be running my second consecutive Condura, this time as a half marathoner.
