Ayala Malls’ Wrapped in Love

Wednesday, 14 November 2012  |  News + Promos

I attended the Ayala Malls’ Wrapped in Love press conference yesterday as an ambassador of Hero Foundation. In behalf of Hero Foundation, I was asked to share a little bit about Hero Foundation and how we can help orphans of fallen soldiers this Christmas.  It was a pleasure to be with other Hero ambassadors present in the event, namely Piolo Pascual (Papa P.!), Nikki Gil, and 6cyclemind.

Ayala Malls will be having its Christmas Kindness Sale where some of the Hero ambassadors have donated items that will be sold to the public.  Funds will go to Hero Foundation.  In all Ayala Malls as well, you’ll see donation boxes where you may donate cash to help an orphan.

Now, if you’re a runner, perhaps you would like to pledge a certain amount for every kilometer you run.  We’ve encouraged our TBR Dream Marathon runners to do this on their marathon on February 24, 2013, but you’re more than welcome to help as well!  After all, it’s the season for sharing!  Click HERE to find out how.

Nike We Run MLA: Win a 10k Race Kit and Run in my Shoes

Wednesday, 14 November 2012  |  News + Promos

I would’ve given anything to run Nike We Run MNL on December 2, 2012, but Unilab Active Health will be flying me to Angkor Wat Half Marathon on the same day.

Here’s the thing: I’ve got a Nike We Run MLA 10k race kit waiting for me AND I wanted to post a little race report, too. So, I came up with the idea to throw a little contest for anyone who would be interested in “running in my shoes” (figuratively speaking so please don’t expect me to hand you some shoes!) and taking my place in the race and reporting about it after here on TBR.  (Hey, if you do a great job at this, I’m thinking you could be my official “Run-porter” for future races.)

If you’re game, here’s how to join my TBR We Run MLA Run in my Shoes contest:

PRIZE

  • 1 free race kit for We Run MLA 10k
  • Feature on www.thebullrunner.com for We Run Manila 10k Race Report.

MECHANICS

  • In 2 to 3 sentences, tell me why I should choose you to “Run in my Shoes” for Nike We Run MLA 10k.
  • Post the answer in the comments section below.
  • Only 1 entry per person.
  • Only applicable to runners within Metro Manila.
  • Winning entry will be chosen by TBR. Criteria for winning entry: content, originality, wit, writing style
  • Contest ends Thursday, November 15, 2012, 9:00AM
  • Winner will be given 1 complimentary race kit to We Run Manila 10k. Winner agrees to personally run the race, take photos, and write a race report for feature on www.thebullrunner.com. Article must be submitted by Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012. Minimum of 300 words.
  • Winner will be posted here and will be notified via email.

Good luck and may the best writer/runner win!

AND THE WINNER IS…BARDMAN!  Congrat Bardman for winning 1 Nike We Run MLA kit and the chance to have your race report featured here on TBR!  Looking forward to reading it!  I’ll email you soon.  Thanks to everyone who participated.  I promise to keep you in mind for other “Run-porter” opportunities 🙂

Bull’s Eye: Proform Le Tour De France and Nordic Track T25.0

Monday, 12 November 2012  |  Gear + Gadgets

This Bull’s Eye spotted these two machines at Fitness & Athletics in Bonifacio High Street (beside Riovana) and pretty much left the store praying I’d win the lotto so I could take the two home.

PROFORM LE TOUR DE FRANCE

It’s no wonder that these flew off the shelves at Ironman 70.3 Cebu Expo. For the serious, competitive cyclist, this is a dream come true.

The Proform Le Tour de France is named such because it allows you to train through the exact route of the Tour de France right in your own home. Choose among the 24 pre-mapped programs (or any route in the world using Google maps), hop on the bike, and the bike will essentially take you through the undulating ascents and descents (yes, it can go on a decline) of the course. All you have to think about is surviving the workout.

It can also connect to Google Maps allowing you to bike through any street all over the globe. It has a power meter and gears, too.

Regular Price: P87,495
Sale Price: P69,995

NORDIC TRACK T25.0

This treadmill just blew me away. I’m not a big fan of treaders because I really prefer to run on the road, but, I must admit, this machine can easily change that for me.

IMG_0480
– I want! –

The NordicTrack T25.0 has full internet connectivity so it can connect to Google Maps. Do you want to run through the New York City Marathon route? Or Kona? Or Paris?  Just choose a route from anywhere in the world on the 10-inch touchscreen and the NordicTrack will climb or descend (yes, it can go downhill too!) as if you were running on the road itself.

With full web-browsing capabilities on an Android system, you can connect to Facebook or Twitter while running. (Hey, that’s a good thing for all you social media runners out there.)

Regular Price: P176,995
Sale Price: 145,795

Both items are on sale at Fitness & Atheltics in Bonifacio High Street. 0% installment is available for some credit cards.

New Balance Power Run 2012 & Bull Session 2

Sunday, 11 November 2012  |  Bullish Insights

The New Balance Power Run 25k is an event that a lot of runners anticipate.  I’ve been a big fan of this NB Power Run even when they used to hold it in Clark, Pampanga.  Now, it still draws the crowds and offers a safe and well-organized venue to run this unique distance.

The race was very well-organized.  Hydration was aplenty.  Kilometer markers couldn’t have been more accurate.  Marshals were everywhere.  And, oh boy, that 10k course was a nice one.  I would love to run that again.  The entire race was simple, smooth, and thoroughly a delight to run.

SHOWBIIIIIZ!

I don’t know about you, but I can’t seem to remember anything from this morning’s New Balance Power Run except spotting Ann Curtis, Karylle, Daniel Matsunaga, Solenn Heussaff, Isabelle Daza, and Miriam Quiambao running alongside us.  I’m sure in the longer distances, the NB Power Run’s race ambassadors, Team Gotta Tri, composed of athletes/celebs Kuya Kim Atienza, Erwann Heussaff, Gilbert Remulla, and more  left other runners stunned either because they were starstruck or because of their speed. These guys work hard at their craft and in their training.

I think it’s great that more and more celebs are getting active and taking to running and triathlon.  It does nothing but boost the popularity of our beloved sports and increase public awareness for fitness.  To add, seeing celebs during the race is perfect distraction from the pain, perhaps even better than salt sticks.  Cramps?  Uy, si Ann Curtis ba yun?  Habulin nga.

BULL SESSION 2

For the first time ever, we decided to hold our Bull Session for TBR Dream Marathon during a race.  We invited our TBR Dream Marathoners to join us for our training run during the race.  As always, the Bull Session was led by Coach Lit Onrubia.  Assembly was 30 minutes before race start.  We had volunteer pacers for each of the groups we sub-divided our TBR Dreamers into depending on their preferred run-walk intervals and pace.

IMG_0597
– Another TBR Alum, Miriam, led the 3-1 group –

IMG_0595
– Here’s Mike, another TBRDM alum, who volunteered to pace –

It was a practice session for most of the future marathoners where they practiced the actual first 10k of their marathon 3 months from now.  Some finished boasting of PRs, some finished their first 5k, and some learned their body’s limits and the need for serious, consistent training.  The good thing is there’s enough time to prepare the body and mind for the upcoming marathon!

COOL OFF

After the 10k, friends and I jumped into the pool for an easy swim to cool off in this hot weather.  10k easy run plus 1k easy swim followed by good coffee and breakfast was a perfect way to start this Sunday.
