For 2014, Newton Running introduces several innovations that further improve on the natural running experience.

THE FIFTH LUG

The Gravity III and Motion III Mileage Trainers and Distance III and Distance S III Speed Trainers feature the next evolution of Newton’s unique Action/Reaction forefoot technology with the addition of a fifth lug. The dynamic lugs align with the foot’s five metatarsal bones, thereby delivering more cushioning, greater responsiveness and a broader and more stable base underfoot.

“The fifth lug provides more ‘pop’, or the dynamic platform that gives Newton Running shoes their unique feel and ride,” says Newton Running President Craig Heisner. “POP is also an acronym for ‘point of power,’ which is the forefoot landing zone involved with a balanced and efficient run gait.”

NEW E.M.B.

Newton is also evolving its product architecture on the Motion III and Distance S III by offering a new Extended Medial Bridge (E.M.B), designed to provide a broader platform for added stability. Combined with a lightweight, laser-perforated micro-suede overlay on the upper, these two models provide runners with additional support under the arch without over-controlling the foot’s natural motion.

The new Mileage and Speed Trainers also debut major design changes that appear in all new Newton Running shoes throughout 2014. The changes include welded instead of stitched overlays, 360-degree reflectivity and subtle two-tone designs on the metatarsal stretch panels. The Gravity III and Motion III maintain a 3 mm drop from heel to toe, and the Distance III and Distance S III still have a 2 mm drop. This near-level platform supports a more balanced, natural posture, which is an essential component to efficient running.

TBR Cinco de Mayo Contest: 5 Days of Prizes until 5/5

Thursday, 1 May 2014  |  News + Promos

It’s that time of year again!

If you’re a loyal reader of TBR (and I must thank you for that!), you know that over the past years, I throw a little contest over here in the days leading up to May 5.  It was called the “5 Days to 5/5 Contest” but, this year, I’ve decided to rename it to “Cinco de Mayo.”  It evokes more happiness and, er, it’s less of a tongue twister.  From now on, I hereby declare that it’s not just Mexico and the U.S. that shall celebrate Cinco de Mayo, but festivities shall also commence in this tiny little blog of mine!

WHY CELEBRATE TBR CINCO DE MAYO?

First, it’s my birthday.  I turn…gasp…38.  Some would panic about this, but it’s not that big a deal to me.  Mainly because when people ask me how old I am, I’m still stuck at 27.  Seriously.  I sincerely believe I’m still 27 sometimes.  Other times I think and act like I’m 12.

Second, it’s my 7th blog anniversary.  Yep, for people who don’t know how TBR started, I created the TBR logo and uploaded the first few blogposts on the day of my 30th birthday on our dining table in all of 30 minutes.  I clicked that upload button and thought that no one would ever read the blog (hence, if you read the archives, I disclose high school crushes and completely embarrassing and unnecessary information there).  Lo and behold, after a few years, I actually fooled a number of you into reading…and running. Hehe.  Now, it’s been a full 7 years of writing about running!  (That is so freakin’ long that I’m actually excited for you to see the changes that are coming for TBR.  Come back next week!)

Third, as I’ve said in the past, it’s my time to thank you all for the support, friendship, kind words, screams of encouragement during a race, or just a simple “Hi TBR!” when we bump into each other.  Thank you for clicking on these pages and reading the crazy things that I write because it’s great to feel acknowledged, fantastic to know that someone is making use of what I’m sharing, and, best of all, it’s just awesome to connect with other people in this sometimes mad and lonely world.  Thank you to each of you for allowing me keep TBR and this bull in me alive so that I can continue to do what I love doing and, hopefully, touch even more people’s lives through running.

PARTY TIME!

So, as my way of thanking you all, I spend the next five days trying to make you guys happy!  Now, what makes runners happy…apart from breaking PRs? hahaha.  Fantastic running gear and shoes to make their run even more fun!

From May 1 to May 5, the next five days until my birthday and 7th blog anniversary, I’ll be giving away loads of stuff worth in total over P30,000 to more than a handful of lucky runners!  Each day will have new prizes, new contest mechanics, and new winners.

Thank you so much to our generous sponsors who have donated prizes for our contest!  Mwah!

Shall we begin?

New adidas Energy Boost Colorways

Friday, 14 March 2014  |  Bullish Insights, Gear + Gadgets

Remember the limited black adidas Energy BOOST I wrote about last year? adidas has gone a long way since then with Energy Boost. Just last month, they unveiled new Energy BOOST colorways.

Just to tell you about how Energy BOOST started, adidas and partner BASF, the world’s leading chemical company, developed BOOST foam cushioning that returns more energy than any other foam cushioning in the running industry.

BOOST technology basically combined the qualities of performance cushioning and responsiveness so runners don’t have to choose between the two; they get both.

Other features of Energy BOOST:

  • BOOST was developed to remain consistently cushioned and incredibly responsive through sub-zero cold to punishing heat, which we can expect this summer LOL.
  • The upper of Energy BOOST features adidas Techfit, highly durable elastic polyurethane that provides optimal comfort and support to the entire foot while in motion. The formfitting, breathable mesh material offers the fit of a sock, while engineered powerbands across the upper provide targeted support and stabilization.
  • Energy BOOST also includes an extended TORSION® system from heel to toe which helps minimize roll for stability. This feature works with an external heel counter which maximizes the heel fit and comfort during runs.

The new collection of miCoach compatible Energy BOOST colorways retails for PHP 7995. Available at leading adidas and sports stores nationwide.

New Shoe: adiZero Primeknit 2.0 in More Colors

Thursday, 24 October 2013  |  Gear + Gadgets

My first thought when I heard about adiZero Primeknit: adidas has Primeknit?! They’re already releasing more colorways when I hadn’t even seen the shoe?!

My second thought: Are knitted uppers the new fad in running shoes now?

Give me a month or two and I could probably knit myself a shoe too!  I kid.  Anyway, if other running shoes come out with knitted uppers in the coming months, we’re pretty much sure my guess was right, right?!

More about the adiZero Primeknit 2.0, the first one-piece upper Performance running shoe, which is being rolled out in new exciting colours this Fall/Winter season for both men and women…

Using the latest design tools with a new seamless engineering technology, adidas has created a first-of-its-kind running shoe. While traditional sports shoes are constructed from several different pieces, this breakthrough method digitally knits the entire upper in just one piece. Knitting fused yarn fine-tunes the exact amount of flexibility and support needed in every part of the shoe. There is no lining or reinforcements – the strength comes from the fused yarn, digitally-knitted in distinct grid patterns to provide ventilation. This all means lightweight comfort that wraps seamlessly around your foot, whilst fewer materials produce less waste.

James Carnes, Head of Design for Sport Performance at adidas, said, “We are constantly innovating to bring superior performance products to the greatest athletes in the world. In designing the adizero Primeknit, our goal was to completely rethink how footwear is engineered, with a keen eye on sustainable construction. This revolutionary design will forever change the way we engineer shoes, combining both premium innovation and maximum performance benefits.”

The adiZero Primeknit collection is now available at adidas Bonifacio Global City starting October 18, 2013 at PHP8295. A total of six colorways will launch in the Philippines, starting with the White and Pink models, followed by four more in November to January 2014.  Woot!

The Case of the Lost Kayanos

Thursday, 25 October 2012  |  Bullish Insights

My 11-year-old TBR Jr. came home from school two weeks ago with good news. They had a test in PE that day and he and his classmates were made to run laps around the field. Everyone completed six laps. He was the only one who ran seven.

I could hardly contain my joy! I exclaimed: Wow, you’re such a fast runner!

He stared back at me blankly and said: It wasn’t about speed, Mama. It was about endurance.

Whoops, my bad.  What was I thinking?!

The following day, TBR Jr. arrived home with even better news. During PE, they were made to run sprints. He came first in the entire class!

This time, I was so overwhelmed with excitement that I took his hand and practically rushed out the door to the nearest running store. His Mizuno shoes were due for replacement anyway and I felt this was the perfect time to replace them.

At Runnr, we stood in front of all the colorful shoes lined up on the shelves. I whispered: Choose any shoe you like. It’s your reward.

Out of all the brands and models, The Bull Runner’s son picked only one shoe: Asics Gel Kayano. (Yes, he’s got taste!)   Runnr didn’t have his size, but I do know the good ol’ people at Asics so I managed to buy a pair directly from the warehouse by day’s end.

I took out the Kayanos from the box, presented it to my son, and went on and on about what a great pair of shoes it was.  How it was one of the best running shoes.  How a lot of runners pined for that shoe and here he was fortunate enough to have it.  How he should maximize it and start running more.  He listened intently.

The following day, he packed the shoes in his bag for PE.  He used his brand spankin’ new Kayanos during class for the first time.  But…oh boy, here we go…when he got home from school, it was nowhere to be found. He had accidentally left it in the waiting area.

The Kayanos have not made their presence felt since their disappearance last week (neither has the guy who probably took it! Rawr!)  I’ve been praying the shoes pop up at the Lost and Found, but all hope is dwindling.  It seems like I’ll have to buy him another pair soon (unless I want my son to squeeze his feet into his tight Mizuno’s and have all his toenails die like mine.)  Sigh.

As for my TBR Jr., we had to teach him about responsibility and we found a way for him to make up for the loss.  A portion of the cost will be taken out of his savings and he has to shine everyone’s shoe until the end of the year.

Just between you and me though, if he comes home next week and tells me he came in first in a race among classmates, I just may do cartwheels and forget about those lost Kayanos!
