One Day til Mizuno Infinity Run

It’s Mizuno’s Infinity Run tomorrow. And, unlike past races, I am completely unprepared.

IMG_0043

I signed up for 5k tomorrow (the longest distance I’ve ran for the past two months as proven in my expanding waistline) and I laugh at myself for feeling all jittery just thinking about it. Will my knee cooperate? Will I have to walk? And, last but not the least, will I be able to resist the temptation of racing when I promised myself I’d run a slow, easy pace?

Truth be told, I was concerned about the last question as I was leaning towards a “No.” I worried about the fact that this bull-headed runner would glare at faster runners in the middle of the race, scratch her hoofs down on the ground, and with a loud, violent grunt yell “To hell with it. Bahala na yung tuhod!” And run as fast as I could.

Fortunately, the hubby came to the rescue. Almost like a night in shining armor (aw, how romantic), he accepts my invitation to run his first 5k with me and, by default, gained the respectable position of being my pacer. With him by my side, I’m certain I’ll run this one at a slow, steady pace making sure that the hubby enjoys the experience so that he turns into a running addict like me! (If this doesn’t one work, I’ll try hypnotism next)

Today, instead of my usual pre-race prep day wherein I rest, eat well, and sleep early for tomorrow’s race, I am doing quite the opposite. I’m working in the morning, playing golf (first time on the fairway) this afternoon, and watching Horton with the kids in the evening. Wish me luck tomorrow. (Insert nervous laugh here)

For those who haven’t seen the race route, here it is. (Thanks Mark for emailing) See you all tomorrow!

  1. good luck to you and your hubby, sana nga he takes to running as well. as far as the urge to race is concerned, take a cue from horton: “running is running no matter how slow…” ( take off from people are people no matter how small) hahaha, pilit ba? :) enjoy tomorrows race

  2. Good luck Bullrunner. Enjoy the race with hubby. You’ll have to make he stays hydrated and doesn’t get too caught up in the excitement and go out too fast:) What’s little bull doing, meeting you guys at the finish?

  3. You always make the best out of every situation, you can do it Bullrunner and with such a sense of enjoyment and fulfillment. In doing so, you’ve inspired your knight to share this passion. I see, you’re doing your fair share of getting into his game, golf! That just brings you both to the top of the pedestal. I’m sure you have lively conversations of pure action — running, swimming, golf… and the list goes on. That is healthy living in itself! All is well, Bullrunner. The force is with you. Enjoy!

  6. I know how you feel. Sometimes I really dont know how to treat 5ks. We usually use 5k races break in or ease back from recovery. However, we also know that 5k races are meant to be 90% of all out because it is typically used as pace predictors for longer mileage.

Glad to know your hubby is there to give a new experience for this particular 5k.

Awww I wish I was there. I can’t believe I’m missing this. I caught a bug and was asked to rest for a week. I look forward to your post-mizuno race stories.

  10. Just finished the Mizuno survival run. Their shirt was a bit lacking. It says at the back “Run 100%”… which is kinda true: Run 100%, Water 0%. Go figure.

Hope your hubby doesn’t get discouraged. It was nice seeing you after the race (I only read your blog now, so I was surprised you had the “white string” around your neck as you were going to your car — and I said, “Hey, Bullrunner, just 5k this time?” But you had this wonderful smile and said “Yes, but no pain!” Haha!

Plug: Everyone should invest in a running belt: Fuel Belt, Nike running belt, New Balance… I personally use Amphipod coz’ it’s different. :)

  11. jaymie!!! super nice to see you again! :D although medyo disappointed ako dahil nakakadehydrate yung takbo plus naligaw ako sa route (not to mention na walang pins ang race kit) i had fun nonetheless. i was with my friends and my brother, plus hanging out with the happy feet gang and seeing superjaymie getting her groove back was priceless

  13. i would just like to express my disappointment over the just concluded mizuno marathon, since i dont know where else to leave a comment, i decided to do it here…. i am a newbie runner, and my 1st one was the condura, so that will always be my gauge,it turned out to be a very organized marathon compared to this one considering mizuno is a big brand.. i dont understand how they could run out of water in the stations, i ran 5k and there was no water at any of the stations, i managed to finish the race but felt really weak and ready to collapse from the heat… i dont knwo if it was a lack of budget or just neglect on the part of organizers…its become a lesson for me, nex time i should always bring my own bottle..another point against the mizuno was that they chose to make the route outsie the fort, in a n area where all the jeeps were passing, in return we had to inhale all the fumes coming from those puvs

  14. I ran the 15k leg of this poorly coordinated race. I can honestly say that I’m VERY dissatisfied with this race…with the race kit (or lack thereof—ano ba yan,pin lang wala pa!) NO WATER in so-called WATER STATIONS (good thing I brought my own) Some even drank from a hose from a gardener(!) watering plants, just for refreshment. No race marshalls—some got lost and joined the military men jogging at the time, and I even confronted a person who crossed my side of the lane when he should have went straight and turned at the U-turn a few meters away..this was the worst race I ever joined. And don’t even get me started with the lousy souvenir shirt! Run 100%??? Give me a break! The shirt should AT LEAST have the race distance, race date, or even a simple finisher logo would have sufficed…Two thumbs down is not enough to rate this abyssmal experience.
