Green or Blue Singlet?

Are you wearing GREEN or BLUE at the One La Salle race this coming Sunday?

Most of the runners will definitely be sporting the green singlet accompanying the race bib.  But—all in the spirit of fun—some of us Ateneans are planning to wear blue.

Now, to my La Sallite friends (or is it, La Sallian?) please don’t find offense in this.  It is not meant to be disrespectful either.  We just want to express our fierce loyalty towards our own alma mater.

Unfortunately, I have been through every sports store in the South searching for a blue singlet but to no avail. I was tempted to purchase those Adidas school jackets but my thriftiness ruled over me. (So much for fierce loyalty, eh?)  I’ll probably have to wear my aqua, white, or black singlet then.  Anything—as long as it’s not green heehee.

Running with me on Sunday are my husband (a neutral guy because he was schooled abroad)—and hopefully (because he doesn’t have a race bib yet) my 17-year-old star athlete nephew.  This nephew of mine was pulled out from Bacolod and given a full scholarship to play basketball for La Salle Greenhills. He’s going to be the first Pinoy NBA player—in all of our dreams!  I’m pretty sure we’ll be eating his dust on Sunday even if he’s never raced a day in his life.

For now, this proud Aunt shall leave you with a basketball video of her not-so-little nephew.  See you on race day!

  2. Whether you wear green or blue — it doesn’t matter and we’ll welcome all Ateneans who will run — it’s for a good cause!!! I just can vouch for all the dogs that might be around — sorry, joke only!!!

Sayang, your video won’t play na.

  3. Sorry, I meant, I just can’t vouch for the dogs — my stupid fingers have a mind of their own — pardon their disrespectfulness. Animo —–!!

  4. With your fierce loyalty to Ateneo, does this mean that you’re not joining the Milo Marathon because the t-shirt/singlet is colored green and nobody is allowed to run wearing a different top?

  5. Johnny, hahaha! Takot ako ah—maybe I should wear matching long blue pants?!

Nora, before we discuss outfits, let’s see if I even make it to Milo this time. 1st milo: I fainted the night before. 2nd milo: I injured myself. I’m crossing my fingers!

  9. Pretty sure it will be a jampack starting line since the registration is already closed If I’m not wrong late noon the other day July 10. Lucky for me I was able to catched the last Bib# for 16k at the Robinson’s Forum Olympic Outlet. Go La Salle still. though I have nothing against the blue’s coz aside from its one of my fave color my closest friends are Atenean’s. For the spirit of Sportsmanship I wish to run side by side with the blue’s hehehehe… Go La Salle…

  12. Hi bullrunner. Haven’t posted in awhile. I’m naive (and only that) to ask this question since I’ve never been to La Salle. What is the significance between the green and blue singlet other than the color? Thanks again and good luck Sunday!

  15. yeah… my tummy’s conspicuous enough as it is without me hiding it behind a blue ateneo shirt. hehe. :)

  16. i’ll wear the green singlet, it will not tarnish my loyalty to UP. But the ADMU – DLSU rivalry is another story (‘do’n't know about you guys)

BTW happy centenary sa mga Iskolar ng Bayan….UP Tunay! Palaban! MAKABAYAN!!! (sorry for the chant, ‘can’t help it)

have a good run on Sunday

  18. I use to run for the Ateneo Track Team. I’m thinking of wearing my old UAAP singlet but don’t want to get into any trouble! Hahahaha! Perhaps I’ll go with a more discrete blue Adidas singlet…

  19. I’ve sense there is a mounting rivalry here. Green’s or blue’s it doesn’t matter let’s unite for we are still in one homeland our beloved country Philippines. Go! La Salle… hehehehehe

  23. i ran the 16K this morning, also refusing to wear the green singlet. i wanted to use the 2nd mizuno singlet since it was blue but i ended up using my white one. Green just isnt a nice color. hehe

There were too many people this morning, had a hard time moving around.

  24. Post race reflection’s after my first 16k.

“Running is one endurance sport, I would not recommend coz it must be somethin you found it in your heart & embrace it, So once the pain & loneliness comes in. You’ll know it’s just a consolation” – Alfred

I’ve enjoy the race this morning am runnin my way in the rain smiling passing some. Havin a tentative time of 1 hour and 26 mins. I’ll still be waitin for the official race results ;)

  25. the ONE la salle run really rocks!

ONE bottle of water for every water station

ONE clueless security guard/race marshall for ONE corner

ONE less sign for every turn causing ONE hell of a confusion right at turn ONE (which was ONE hundred meters away from the starting line!)

but the best part: ONE route for the 3km, 5km, and the 16km distances.

oh how i love to see those faces of 3km and 5 km runners turning green and blue and rainbow looking for the finish line that seemed forever out of sight because they strayed in the 16km route!

    haay…

  26. enjoyed yesterday’s run, first time to run in the rain, was looking for you, jaymie, but the crowd was sooooo big, it was futile.. hehe,,, i was by myself though :( boycott by my barangay. it was fun to see the sea of green, teens and first time runners, in the rain pa, napagod ako grinning all the way. i wasnt able to register on time, kaya after the run, went home na lang… wet.

  27. all in all i enjoyed this run, but as an American expat I am continually stunned by the terrible traffic control during races at the Fort. This is about the 10th race of 10k or more I’ve done there, and at the last two (Mizuno Rush to Infinity and LaSalle) and several others I’ve literally had to stop traffic myself to cross the street while running. It;s bad enough when you’re running *next to* jeepneys, and I guess you can’t prevent that. But when you’re crossing an intersection and traffic is crossing? A bit much.

Also want to mention that my Nike+ band showed the 16k route at 14.44. Anyone else have a similar experience?

On the plus side: tons of water, good festival, atmosphere, and freebies after, and I got to meet Coach Rio!

  28. had great time yesterday… took forever to find the online race coord who had our packets, no marshall(s) and signs at crucial corners, and the heavens poured. lovely. :)

of course i had to wear something white and i opted for the mizuno singlet… which was quite effective in the rain. also, saw someone wearing a bright blue ateneo singlet. (runmd?) too bad i didnt see jaymie… :(

  29. hahaha hey nick, that’s one funny (but very accurate) comment on the race yesterday… my garmin measured the route to be 15.2km.

loonyrunner said on Jul 14 08 at 8:10 AM Reply
  30. I have to say, that was one of the most disorganized runs I have joined. First of all, the route was absolutely terrible! Too many road crossings, turns and practically nowhere to go.

I was one of the many 5k runners who ended up running 3k. Also, there were some elite 16k runners who finished the same time as us (30 min 16k??? – That’s a world record!).

Anyways, I hope LaSalle makes up for this.

  31. One run, One Family, One La Salle, One Route. hehehehehe… I feel pity to those 3k and 5k runners who got lost and carried away by us the 16k. Men they are too exhausted.
U, Nick Torre I certainly agree with your comment, No wonder you’ll hear a complain after the race.

One point though where’s the finisher’s jersey which the organizer’s say they will distribute together with the certificate? Is it the singlet’s already?

  32. So sino nanalo? Kami ba? hehehe As usual, missed this run again. I had my own competition at manila bay. Di ba sabi nila ‘What your mind can concieve your body can achieve. ‘ It doesn’t always work that way kaya. : )

I agree with the terrible traffic management at Fort races. Its worst for motorists passing thru. Any suggestions on how we can address this?

Aba Jaymie, may video pa nephew mo ha. I’ll check it out later. You must be very proud. How did he do last sunday?

  33. Hi Alfred,

    Are you from La Salle?

Michelle said on Jul 14 08 at 10:12 AM Reply
  34. Yes Charles, that was probably me. I didn’t see anyone else wearing an ateneo singlet. My watch also measured it as 15.2 km, same as loonyrunner’s probably because we were running together. Nice comment Nick.

  35. i ran my best 5K at 16++ minutes but how come i did not win? it was fast enough to qualify in the Olympics!!!

It was because i ended up running 3K. I knew i must have ran less than 5K the moment i checked my watch when i arrived at the queue in the finish line.

There were no marshals at critical turns of the route thats why many runners got lost.

Also, the baggage booth was a mess. They ran out of tags so they have to write on the bags (using permanent markers). Not wanting to have our bag marked, my wife just carried the bag while doing her 3K.

But on the brighter side, there were lots of drinks. The free donuts were also nice.

And if the race results get published and it show my time as 16+++ minutes, I will put it in a nice frame and hang it on the wall

  36. Arrrrggggggghhhhh…. the race continued even with the unpredictable weather?!?

To all who came and braved the weather!!! Cheers to all of you guys!!! And plenty of water and vitamins too!!!

    Hope you didn’t get sick…

I was on my way to the race with my eldest daughter wanting to see what I was doing for the last 4 sundays of waking up early and wearing my running shoes.

She wanted to join the race, but I told her to train first by running in our Village. She’s just 11 yrs old and I think she can excel in this.

    Anyways… till next race…

  37. disorganized?!? again??? wow… that sucks man….

    Is organizing a race difficult?

    1. STARTING/FINISH LINE
    2. WATER ON EVERY 2.5K
    3. MARSHALLS ON EVERY TURNING POINT TO POINT RACERS WHERE TO GO

    Is it that difficult?

  38. ang corny mo naman! papansin ka lang. masyado kang disrespectful! kung gusto mo magblue, then don’t join the La Salle race.
