Robinson’s Buddy Wellness Run

We almost didn’t show up for this one.  I woke up at 4:30 a.m. to the sound of rain outside so I immediately consulted my team mate a.k.a. The Hubby who was quite conveniently half awake on the other side of my bed.  ”Do we go?”  (Yawn)  I wasn’t particularly excited about this race as, I’ve said before, I had TNF thoughts on my mind.  ”Do you want to go?” he asked although I knew he didn’t want to run under the rain again. I told him we should go on two points: 1) The rain could stop by 6 a.m. and 2) We spent a whopping P1000 for race registration.  Sayang naman diba?!  So, with that, we decided to get dressed and show up at NBC Tent.

The assembly area was a welcome sight from the overwhelming OROFOLS crowd.  By this time, the rain had stopped and there were a few hundred runners waiting for the race to begin.  Before that, we were treated to uhm a dance warm up courtesy of Regine Tolentino who seemed to be the only one wide awake during that time of day.  (Yawn) Oops, sorry there I go again.  I just wasn’t into this race for some reason.

When the gun went off, “Team Pizarro” ran together at too fast a pace at around 5 min/km.  I sort of knew that we couldn’t keep this up together.  By km2, we slowed down a bit to 5:30.  By km3, we slowed down even more.  And, you don’t have to guess what happened at km4 and 5.

We finished the race side-by-side, a strict rule imposed by organizers, at a ho-hum time of around 32 minutes for 5.4 km.

This was, suprisingly, fine by me.  It was not a big deal that I couldn’t ran faster, beat my PR, or we didn’t win that trip to Cebu (although a suprise win wouldn’t have hurt).  It did matter that we didn’t argue at all, we didn’t leave each other behind, and he got me my own water to drink at the station.  (I wished he could wipe the sweat off my face too but that may have been asking for too much.)

After crossing the finish line, I ran another 2km around Bonifacio High Street and met my bestest team mate in the car. Then, we went straight home eager to meet the rest of the team, the two kids who were still fast asleep.

  1. kaw pala yun… was supposed to ask for a pic, but medyo nahiya ako. (so kay tessa prieto na lang ako nagpa-pic… haha!)

the “buddy system” was quite amusing as i had to accompany my gf all throughout the race at a snail’s pace. (around 8min/km)… but she made it through and it became more of a “bonding time” rather than a race. :) and yeah… that’s a pretty complete lootbag (aka. grocery pack)

  2. If only I had a loving hubby to run with me (sob…) Hmm… might as well look for one, just in case there’s another race specifically for couples. Congrats to you and your darling team mate. Maybe next time you’ll be celebrating in Cebu Shang after the run!

  5. was a body run for me. paid for 2 and run alone. single soul beating all the way to the finish line and getting away with two loot bags ; ) good enough to tide the running bachelor for the week’s meal supply.

yeah, team pizarro was real fast at the start, i noticed. the beauty and joy of a body run-no luggage but seeing all the buddy doubles made my heart go craving for company.time to look for a buddy.running specie sana.no, dapat.no less.

btw, i just know you from this blog and your pics but i do not want to sound and be as intrusive as your friend’s, marga, stalkers and ill-advised fans! hahaha.

  6. I enjoyed the race too!
Just a question– why did you have to pay P1000 for registration? The fees were just P500/pair… and yes, the loot bag was definitely a pleasant surprise!

  7. Charles, congrats to you and your gf. Kahit mabagal, masaya pa din.

Nora, I’d like to think there are many tall, dark and handsome runners around. In preparation for the next buddy run, let’s start looking for you hahaha.

Marga, I didn’t think of that! Thank God it didn’t!

BroJ, time to start training with the wifey!

Bugobugo85, I hope the 2 lootbags made up for the absence of a partner. Like nora, it’s good to start searching for your buddy for next years race. Wait a minute…nora’s single. Your single. hmmm…just kidding.

Fellowrunner, a big thank you for informing me! I sent the messenger P1000 thinking it was P500/pair. I’m waiting to hear from him.

  14. Hi TBR, actually my swthrt is already running with me regulary every sat at UP diliman, and occasionally on weekdays after office if our schedule permits. And she’s already enjoying it. Kulang na lang ng confidence in running a 5K race. She ran the 3K with our son in One Lasalle Run. Well, she’s getting there. Hope we can meet you in one of the races. God bless!
