Who Wants to Run on the Skyway?

I do!

Running on the Skyway—it’s wide, paved, elevated roads overlooking the metro and just a touch away from the clouds—has been my dream for the longest time.  No one is ever allowed to walk on this road, much less run on it.  But, thanks to Condura, we’ll all have the chance to do so!

Get ready for CONDURA RACE on March 22, 2009, where the Half Marathon route will partially pass the South Luzon Skyway coming from Bonifacio Global City.  Woohoo!  There will also be a 3k/ 5k/ 10k race.

Patrick

- Patrick Concepcion, Ton Concepcion, Mr. Borromeo (President – Skyway), Mr. Nepomuceno (Skyway – VP for Operations) at the MOA signing for Condura Skyway Run last night -

Thank you in advance to Condura Durables, Inc. headed by running brothers, Patrick and Ton Concepcion, for raising the bar when it comes to local races!

Further details on early registration for Condura Skyway Run will be available soon.  I’ll keep you posted.

  7. thanks for posting this. and thank you so much is advance for your support. condura has always made every effort to be different and this is true of our races. what makes the race special needless to say is the route. and running in the skyway truly is a dream come true.

the skyway has been the partner of contel for over 15 years now. we provide them trunked radios. and so with that i took the chance and asked the skyway if they would consider the race. i said it doesnt hurt to dream big and try.

and so last week i visited the skyway team twice to present the case. how this will be good for the general public and the running community in particular. how there will be not much issues having the run on the skyway.

i was very happy with the skyways enthusiastic support. i was able to get this approved in 1 weeks time. i am so happy that they share the same vision of having a truly world class running event on a truly world class skyway.

there are more surprises to come. and we shall be posting more information soon in our new web site.

we are also open to anyone who wants to support us.

for instance we are looking for pace leaders. we want to institutionalize pace leaders as part of our race.

just like the race for tubbataha, this years run will also be for the benefit of the environment – the marine ecosystem in particular as i am a runner but also a diver.

thank you again for all your support and looking forwards to seeing you in the sky!

Ton, it really is a race of a different class: first the skyway, then the pace groups. I think it’s great that you have all gone of out your way to deliver not just any race but one that will give runners a new and more exciting race experience. Thank you again. I look forward to running on the skyway with you guys!

  13. Kudos to Condura! I so love the skyway I ride over it twice a day :-) Pace leadership is also a good idea (hopefully marathon organizers will also think of this). Thanks!

Yup, I’m looking forward to the pace groups too!

  14. Great idea! I hope there wont be a toll fee at the end. hehehe.. Will surely join.

  15. god knows,i have been meaning to run up the buendia ramp that leads to the skyway.i have been tempted many times especially in the wee hours of the morning whenever i do my makati runabouts.boy, would i cast my eyes on those ramps.

if not for their patrol cars and bikes chasing me,then i would have in a heartbeat.

bless you patrick and tom concepcion.mabuhay!

    and so, i do.

I hope you’re in town during this race! :)

  17. May I appeal to the organisers to start the race early — that would be a three-kilometre plus stretch — if I remember correctly, without a shade in early summer, and it’s by no means flat. Driving the opposite way you can actually free-wheel it to Buendia from the rise past the Magallanes exit. (But don’t try this on your own, it’s dangerous and foolish :) )

Thanks, miraclecello. I’ll inform Patrick in case he doesn’t see this. Now, now, ingat driving on the skyway!

  18. I’ll join this one, my first 21k.

Great choice, Christy! I’m sure it’ll be a memorable experience for you :)

  25. the half marathon will start at 5:30am
we shall be accepting reservations starting on jan 12 2009 when we launch our web site
we expect this to be a packed race and there are only limited slots
    so reserve early!

we also have 3km, 5km, 10km race – these start at 6 am with 5 minute intervals between – it will follow the same condura race course as 2008

ton concepcion said on Dec 26 08 at 6:36 PM Reply
  26. Oh no. There’s no running at the skyway on the 10k?!? I want to experience it too. I really cannot run a half-marathon yet. I only did an almost 10K run during the urbanathlon and it was freakin’ tiring. I even had knee pains after the run and it lasted for one week.

How I wish I could run 21K too. But I’m still heavy to do that (I’m at 208lbs though I already lost 32lbs). It would be suicide for me if I’ll run 21K. I joined 5K at the condura race last year, hoping to advance to 10K this year.

Hi John. I have a feeling this won’t be the last time Condura will include the Skyway in its races. I wont be surprised if they do this annually. So, don’t fret, do a 10k and enjoy. You’ll have your chance in the future :)

  27. hey jan congrats on your fantastic achievement – truly an inspiring experience. the 10k is a big accomplishment already – anyway the run will be exciting – better than last year – more bands, marine life, etc – it will be more fun.

then next year you can run the skyway – but this time – a full 42km :-)

thanks bullrunner for allowing me to comment

42k on the skyway? Ooooh, we’re excited already :)
