Last Call for 2010 Condura Race Wishes

Ton Concepcion of Condura is asking for any more suggestions for Condura Race 2010.  He gave me a sneak peek into what they’ve planned so far, and let me tell you that I think they’ve got everything (and more!) covered.  But, if there are still some items you’d like to share from your “Marathon Wish List,” for the race and pre- and  post-race events, share it now and Ton says that they’ll try their best to make our marathon dreams come true on Feb. 7, 2010.

As for my Marathon Wish List, I just have two requests:

  1. Well-organized race (from redemption of race packets to leaving the parking lot after the race!)
  2. Marc Nelson to run alongside me throughout the entire marathon

Okay, fine. You can skip No. 2. Just give me No. 1 and I’ll be a happy camper.  All those below would be great too:

  1. Carboloading party for 42k runners Friday before the race
  2. Quality race singlets
  3. Race bibs with runners’ names on them
  4. Pace groups
  5. Bananas, gels, and sponges at stations
  6. COLD Gatorade and mineral water at stations with long tables
  7. Portalets along the route
  8. Timing chip with RunPix analysis
  9. Free race photos from PhotoVendo
  10. Pleasant and knowledgeable race volunteers and marshals (believe me, this makes a big difference when one is exhausted)
  11. Entertainment at every other kilometer (e.g., Marc Nelson yelling me name)
  12. Nice, heavy, unique medals
  13. Additional singlets only for 42k finishers
  14. Food after the race
  15. Free massage after the race

For now that’s it. I’m sure I’ll think of more.

Feel free to list your own requests by commenting below.  Ton will definitely read it.

  10. no singlet but a Finisher’s T-shirt would be a nice souvenir for the race.

  11. Increase the cash prize for the Marathon Race. They should review their prizes in the half-marathon last year. A 100K prize for the Marathon Champion would be decent and/or start sending the Champion to International Marathon Race.

  12. emcee enthusiatically announcing 42k runners name while crossing finish line

  13. last year, the condura’s half-marathon registration fee was 500 pesos with 7,000pesos as cash prize for the champion. my wish is to lower the fee for the marathon to 250-300 pesos with a 100K pesos cash prize for the champion.

  14. mr rudy biscocho as the race director! however, he should improve his race packet redemption system

    • I agree! I’d also like to suggest that inorder for such an event be more meaningful (and to continue with the tradition of the previous Condura Runs) that the beneficiary for this year be our national bird: the Philippine Eagle formerly known as the Monkey-eating Eagle. This is to increase the awareness that the raptor is an endangered specie and one of its kind.
The race organizers may coordinate with the Philippine Eagle Foundation, thru Tatit Quiblat (tatit@philippineeagle.org & tatitq@lycos.co.uk).

Thank you and see you all at the race!

  15. Hello TBR,

Please add this to your list: Socialized registration fee payments

    See you on the road!

  16. With all the bruhahaha that happened in the recent major races, only two things that I hope and pray that Mr Concepcion will do good work with the 2010 Condura Run:

    1. Orderly race packet distribution. you pay the registration fee, you get the race packet and singlet…that simple. last year was just like that…plain and simple. no fancy running expos, no need to go to other places/offices to get the packet. you pay at the registration center you get your stuff…no dramas.

    2. timing chip. about time we “graduate” from the usual timing system. more and more runners are getting serious with this sport…about time that organizers get serious with them as well by providing accurate and timely race results.

just wanted to reiterate most of the wishes mentioned…para lang makarating sa mga organizers :)

  17. TBR,

The list already looks almost complete. You may still add:

    1) PTs/masseurs/Salonpas spray from km 25 and up
    2) showers after the finish line
    3) sponge & ice stops
    4) bands/cheering squads
    5) pacers to assist newbies and those aiming to set PRs

    Thanks.

  19. During my first marathon at QCIM, the most difficult part, physically and mentally was the last 6 kms. It would be a big, big help if there will be loud cheerers, rah-rah teams on these last kilometers. Salompas/liniments also.

    Cheers!

  20. Videos rin when you finish, not just pictures.

*I’m anticipating that this race will be EXPENSIVE.

Hub Uy said on Nov 10 09 at 1:16 AM Reply
  21. It would be nice to have age group winners in addition to overall winners , both for male and female categories, a good way to reward not only the the young elite.

A more generous cut off time for the full marathon and half marathon would encourage more new, older, female runners to participate.

An exclamation point after winning the marathon, a prestigious prize of being featured in the cover and main story in the next issue of the Bullrunner magazine.

    :)

  22. 1. Include in the race packet and/or the dedicated website
    where the water and/or sports drink stations will be located along the route;
    2. This is normally a no-brainer but also include the brand + variant/flavor of sports drink to be given;
    3. Give information on which road(s) to take going to parking / starting line via car and public commute (assuming some roads will be closed like what happened in QCIM);
    4. Accurate pacers with highly distinguishable shirts stating their pace (the 2:15 pacers where nowhere near when I crossed the finish at 2:15 in the QCIM);
    5. Those marching bands were nice but the loud, cheering crowd of onlookers along commonwealth actually provided more energy and entertainment to me in the QCIM… so if its not too much to ask can we have Anne Curtis cheering for me? I mean us? :) Ok. Paula Taylor na lang kung hindi siya pwede.

  23. 1. HAVE A DISCOUNTED EARLY REGISTRATION FEE. But announce it now, if possible. The HK marathon for Feb 28 has its registration closed na due to the heavy demand.

    2. More media announcements periodically to inform motorists of detours during race day. Maybe put up signs along race route weeks before the race to forewarn motorists of the upcoming race.

  26. I agree with Macky. Cheerers on the last 5 kms, and they will wait for the last runner.

  27. deploy experienced medical attendant in case of emergency especially for dehydrated runners.

gninor said on Nov 10 09 at 12:24 PM Reply
  28. more efficient distribution of loot bags after the race. hope they can avoid what happened at the kenny’s open when they had several long lines we had to queue after an exhausting race. maybe, just hand out the loot bags as soon as one crosses the finishline.

for race packet distribution, they can give the privilege of getting a complete set for the early registrants. late registrants of course would have to wait to get their complete race packets. they can anticipate already number of expected participants & singlet sizes if they can get hold of statistics/database from organizers of recent races.

  29. (1) I agree with the race bib with names — if they can’t do it for all, at least the 42K runners.
    (2) Announce the names of 42K runners as they cross the finishline — this is what they did to the Ironman finishers in Camsur. Hearing your name at the finsihline is a nice bonus for surviving the 42Ks.
    (3) Different colored singets for 42K, 21K and 10K runners.
    (4) A nice finishers shirt & medal for all 42K finishers who finish w/in the cut-off time.

  31. For the ENVIRONMENT..

TRASH BINS after each water station.

AC said on Nov 10 09 at 3:20 PM Reply
    • +1 to that, TRASH BINS at water stations for the ENVIRONMENT.

i also agree with massive info campaign on the route for MOTORISTS, so they can avoid the closed off areas on race day. i don’t like the feeling of irate motorists shouting at runners in the morning.:P

other than these (more a non participants wish list), i would go for all of BRs wishes (except for the Marc Nelson part, i’d go with Paula Taylor on that one).

  32. Butanding at the finish line.

  33. KM markings for 21k and 42k runners. This is especially useful for those who don’t have a GPS watch.

I’m willing to forego a singlet in exchange for a finisher’s shirt and a finisher’s medal.

  39. No need for cash prizes, just make sure there are sports drinks at the end of the race and have a separate route for the 3K and 5K runners (walkers).

  40. 1. Finisher’s Medals for 21K & 42K finishers
    2. CLP for 21K and 42K runners
    3. Hydration stations every 2.5K, with long tables
    4. Preferably Gatorade, Pocari Sweat or Powerade at hydration stations (Aside from water)
    5. In the claiming area for goodies, free drinks, loot bags & certificates, there should be separate lines for 5K, 10K, 21K and 42K runners so the lines won’t be too long.
    6. Like the KOTR, perhaps they should invite the pep squads of different schools to cheer and motivate the runners.

  43. I believe that the Condura 2010 will be more exciting than the Condura 2009.

    On top of TBR’s wishlist:

Suggest that they have a cut-off time similar to other international marathons. Like 6-hours or 7-hours that other countries implement.

And, may they provide Emergency Medical Support Teams to the last group of marathoners. Or the EMS team should be at the tail end of the last group.
