WANTED: TBR DREAM MARATHON VOLUNTEERS

Thursday, 29 April 2010  |  News + Promos

Remember we mentioned that The Bull Runner Dream Marathon is not just about letting first-time or second-time marathoners reach their marathon dream?  That it’s also about experienced marathoners being given the opportunity to give back to the running community, to give new runners the same support and motivation they received from others.  To basically pay it forward.

If you are NOT a participant of TBR Dream Marathon, but you want to be a part of it.  This is the way.

If you are NOT interested in running your own race on May 22, 2010, and you are willing to set aside the time and effort to help others run 42km by providing them support, without receiving anything in return but a smile and a huge Thank You, then this is your chance.

We are now opening slots for TBR Dream Marathon volunteers.  Three ways in which you can volunteer:

  1. DREAM CHASER – 30 only
  2. PERSONAL PACER – 30 only
  3. WATER OR GATORADE MARSHAL VOLUNTEER – 30 only

Dream Chasers (30 only) and Personal Pacers (30 only) will be issued PINK race bibs like this…(Participants will be in BLUE)

    • Each Dream Chaser station will have 7 to 8 Dream Chasers

  • Provide the following support to the TBR Dream Marathoners who request for help:
    • Run with the runner a few kilometers (never exceeding more than 5km)
    • Motivate
    • Chat
    • Provide food or hydration
    • Cheer! Cheer! Cheer!
ROLE OF PERSONAL PACER:
  • Pace one (1) registered participant throughout the entire 42km
  • Your name must be “attached” to the name of a registered participant.  Participant must accept you as his/her personal pacer
  • Bikers not allowed. Pacer must be on foot.

ROLE OF WATER OR GATORADE MARSHAL:

  • Man the water or Gatorade station
  • Provide hydration to runners with a smile

QUALITIES WE ARE LOOKING FOR IN VOLUNTEERS:

  • For Dream Chasers: experienced runner, but not necessarily a marathoner
  • Serious passion for running
  • Positive, pleasant, cheerful attitude
  • Willing to provide exceptional moral support throughout the entire race
  • Believes in “paying it forward” to first time marathoners who need the same support as he/she received in the past
  • NOTE: For water/ Gatorade marshals, being a runner is preferred but not required

Nike Training Clinic is Back!

Thursday, 15 April 2010  |  News + Promos

I cannot tell you how much I sorely missed the Nike Training Clinics, which I regularly participated in last year.

Nike Training Clinics were led by Coach Rio and his team of coaches, one of which was Coach Jo-Ar, my personal coach a couple of years back.  (Again, I cannot overemphasize the importance of making sure the run clinic you join is led by a reputable coach, especially if you are a beginner!)  Last year, hubby and I would arrive late, yet Coach John would train hubby even if Ultra was ready to close for the night.  The clinics were also a good venue to chat with running friends after serious training (or during, if you’re a good multitasker!)

The good news is that the Nike Training Clinics are back!  Nike Training Clinics start on APRIL 15, 2010. Here’s a note from Kaye Lopez of RunRio:

We’re bringing fast and sexy back this summer with the return of the Nike Running Training Clinics! After a short hiatus, Coach Rio and his coaching staff are back to help you get in shape and in form for your next PR.

Registration and entrance to the Ultra track oval is still FREE so bring your newbie running friends along.

Training schedule and venues are also the same:

  • every Tuesday, 6 to 9pm, at the Ultra Track Oval
  • every Thursday, 6 to 9pm, outside Nike Park, Bonifacio High Street

We’ll help you kick ass and look great on your next race. Train smart with us at the Nike Running Training Clinic!
