Do You Believe in Second Chances?

Thursday, 28 July 2011  |  Bullish Insights

I certainly do. And, it turns out, so does Gatorade.

Liberty

The good people at Gatorade are giving me the chance to run my dream marathon…again. Hopefully, this time, I get to run it exactly the way I want it. No more tripping over Disneyland sidewalks (grrr!), pre-race sightseeing, and last but not the least freezing my thighs off in shorts. I know now what to do and what NOT to do.

It will be serious, steady, and hopefully joyful running at the biggest marathon in the world: The ING New York City Marathon 2011. Looking forward to seeing you again in November, New York!

Gatorade, thank you!

Mommy Milkshake Marathon 2011

Tuesday, 26 July 2011  |  Race Announcements

For those of you who’ve been reading this blog since it started in 2007, you know that I’m a big fan of Mommy Milkshake Marathon. There hasn’t been a year when I missed this fun run.  Why? Here are the reasons:

  1. It’s fun!  My kids always look forward to this race.  TBR Jr. loves running with his cousins here, while Li’l Miss TBR loves the fact that they allow her to bring her pink princess bike.  It’s just a 3k race within BHS so parents like us need not worry too much about their safety.  If I need a “real” run, I run BEFORE the actual race to get the mileage in.
  2. The fun run is an advocacy run for breastfeeding.  The race is held every August which is World Breastfeeding Month. I breastfed both my kids: TBR Jr until he was 6 months and Li’l Miss TBR well over 1.5 years and I always encourage every mother to do so.  It was, for me, one of the most memorable bonding experiences with my kids.
  3. The race is organized by my sister, Janice Villanueva of Mommy Mundo, a go-to portal of everything for moms and preggies, and Mommy Matters, a line of nursing wear clothes.  My Ate will kill me if I don’t show up for her run, but of course she knows I wouldn’t miss it for the world.

Mommy Milkshake Marathon is now on its 5th year!  The next run will be held on August 14, 2011 at Mercato Centrale, Bonifacio Global City. It’ll have a 3k and 5k run or walk.  Hope you can join us then!

Bull’s Eye: Nike Lunar Glide+ 3

Tuesday, 12 July 2011  |  Gear + Gadgets

What shoe did I use for all my five marathons? Just one model: Nike Lunar Glide. I was obsessed with that shoe and I hoarded pairs of them like crazy and eventually used them all to retirement.

Nike then “upgraded” my favorite shoe to Nike Lunar Glide+ 2 which, uhm, to put it bluntly sucked big time.

Then, a little birdie told me that the next Lunar Glide would be more like the 1st release.  So, for months, I patiently waited for its arrival.  Who would’ve thought that a text from Nike this morning would signal the end of my long wait?!

Introducing: Nike Lunar Glide+ 3 fresh out of the box!

What a beauty, eh?!  Tomorrow, I am all set to run my first weekday run post-injury.  Isn’t it perfect timing that I get to road test this brand spankin’ new pair of Nike Lunar Glide+ 3 as well?!  As Tony of Nike said: “It’s fate!”

“Date a Girl Who Runs” on Podcast

Thursday, 7 July 2011  |  Bullish Insights

I wrote Date a Girl Who Runs in less than 30 minutes on a whim (much like the way I started this blog) but with a lot of heart (just like the way I blog and run, too!)  And, I guess when you do things that way, it hits a cord with a lot of people—48,835 readers to be exact since I posted it in March 31 until now.

One of the readers who stumbled upon this humble blog and that little post of mine was Debbie Voiles, a certified Road Runners CA coach from Tampa, Florida and runner for over 30 years, who runs Mojo For Running, a very informative and comprehensive running blog and podcast.

Mojo

Debbie wrote me asking if she could read Date a Girl Who Runs on her podcast and I, of course, was honored.

It’s also on iTunes. Just go to the Mojo for Running podcasts at the iTunes store.

Now Open: Toby’s Sports Arena in Shangrila Mall

Thursday, 7 July 2011  |  Gear + Gadgets

I’m not much of a shopper…except when it comes to sports gear!  So, I’m glad I dropped by the new Toby’s Sports Arena last week at Shangrila Mall (near Mercury Drug).

The new Toby's Sports Arena Shangrila

Toby's Cashier

Admittedly, I was expecting to see the same ol’ Toby’s Sports store that we’ve grown accustomed to through the years. But, I was pleasantly surprised to see that Toby’s Sport Arena housed the three stores of Toby Claudio under one roof, namely: Toby’s Sports, Urban Athletics, and of course, Runnr. It also had a much more modern look from its new logo to the store interiors. The place is so huge that I like how they labelled each area for easy shopping. (No time should ever be wasted shopping for sports gear, right?) They have items for basketball, badminton, swimming, fitness, and many more.

Speedo & Water Sports
– This injured runner is so into swimming and Speedo now –

UA shoewall
– Urban Athletics for lifestyle shoes for the younger crowd. Yes, that still includes us, right? –

Badminton-Indoor-Fitness
– Toby’s stores’ badminton and indoor fitness equipment –

As for running, Toby’s of course, has Runnr. I spotted items in Shangrila Mall that were not available in Bonifacio High Street, such as the Thrive Bamboo Cotton sports apparel (featured in TBR Magazine May-Jun 2011) which kinda reminds me of Lululemon and a Halo headband (which I eventually purchased). The Shang branch also had a treadmill for gait analysis.

RUNNR corner
– Runnr corner –

RUNNR Footworx
– Cool cove for gait analysis –

Aah, you can imagine how wild I went in that place. Okay, maybe you can’t. To give you a clearer picture: I shopped for an hour in the morning, had brunch, and returned for another 30 minutes after. Two days after, I returned for more items. Aside from running items, I went crazy over swimming gear and even lifestyle brands like my super favorite Sanuk. I left the place with a new Speedo swimsuit, Finis paddles, Reef flipflops, and a Halo headband. I know, I know, I’m such a sucker for anything running and now swimming. Hey, aren’t we all?

Sanuk
– I’m a huge Sanuk fan (I have three pairs) so I was happy to see ’em here –

Halo
– See those thin headbands? I got one and I love it. They really don’t slip unlike some “non-slip bands” that actually do! –

Toby’s Sports Arena is located at Shangrila Mall near Mercury Drug and The Travel Club.
