Treadmill
Running at Fitness First before work. Do you know that I started running on a treadmill before I tried road?

In my years of running, the most common question I get from people I’ve just met is this: How do I start running? Truth be told, despite all the information in books, magazines, or online, it’s not as complicated as you think. Here are simple and practical steps to take on how to get started running: (more…)

– So happy to be a member of Sun Life Tri Team –

Has it really been 3 weeks since Ironman 70.3 Cebu? For the past weeks I’ve been telling friends I need to physically and mentally recover from the experience as if it was yesterday and now I realize I’ve had more than enough time! Worse, I hadn’t even posted all the great photos we took during that fun weekend!

So, even if I’m weeks late, I hope you enjoy these pre-race pics. Next post will be photos from race day. (more…)

When I Grow Up, I Want to Be Sister Madonna Buder

For the past months since I turned 40, I’ve been feeling old.  I’ve been complaining to friends about how much longer it takes for me to recover from half marathons, how much harder it is to get out of bed if I don’t get my full 8 hours of sleep, and how much more weight training I need to do now just to keep the triceps from going all wiggly on me.  Then, I view Sister Madonna Buder’s video from the Nike Unlimited series and I’m speechless.

Sister Buder completed her first Ironman World Championship triathlon in Hawaii way back in 1985.  Get this… she was 65. At 75, she became the oldest woman to ever complete an Ironman triathlon. At 82, she set a world record as the oldest Ironman triathlon competitor. Today, at 86 years old, she has completed over 40 Ironman races thereby earning her the nickname “Iron Nun.” (more…)

Looking back at the past couple months, I’d say I’m pretty confident with my training, but I’m still nervous about my performance.  This is the first time I’m joining the relay so starting at around 10AM for a run under the intense heat of the Cebu sun is unchartered territory for me.

Ironman 70.3 Cebu, Here I Come…again!

TongPascua– Ironman 70.3 Cebu hugging one of my first fitness idols (and ex-boss) Sen. Pia Cayetano –

My last triathlon was Ironman 70.3 Cebu way back in 2013. Needless to say, I’ve been semi-retired from triathlon. I use the word “semi” for two reasons: 1) I haven’t stopped training like a triathlete. I swim, bike, and run weekly since 2013 but with much less focus on swim and bike and more on my first love, running. 2) Never say never. I don’t know if I’ll ever make a comeback into triathlon. Who knows, right? (more…)
